I wished we would have researched how much a garage door cost. All we wanted was 2 remotes to be programmed and the guy came out and said sorry the system we had was too old. He said good news is he had one in his piece of crap van. (NOTE: should have been a red flag). So, called hubby and figured we might be spending like 200.00-250.00.
Turns out....it cost 540.00 and they state we got a 3 yr warranty. (WHICH WAS HAND WRITTEN) OH by the way...I had to buy the extra remote and sensors were not included. Later next week we called about door not shutting and technician was rude and said I needed to re-align sensors. UM....that's why we got the warranty.
Later I researched our unit. It costs 128.00 from LOWES and comes with 2 new sensors. I then called "SEAN" who sounded like OMAR...and he was like well, does the opener work? I'm like UM....it doesn't close & we have to manually shut it and go out the front door. So, he said he would send someone out yesterday after fighting with him and said we did purchase the warranty.
He said if the actual opener works...than we are good. I said no it doesn't and it's because of the sensors that were NOT installed. So, he said just this one time he would send someone out. SO, Omar called and argued with me about how I agreed on the price and got the warranty and that it's not covered.
OMG....I can't believe how unprofessional he was. So, he said "MAYBE he would come out between 6 or 7 last night. Of course....no show. So, hope they or HE have can sleep well at night knowing they are ripping people off. It is now 1/5/19. No one ever contacted us.
I ordered the $49.95 lube and tune. They send out a guy in an unmarked truck who
Garagedoorrepair.com is a very clever business model with a sharp website. They appear high in a google search and quickly localize. They run constant web specials. I opted for the $49 lube, adjust and inspection.
What i got was a young man in a plain tee shirt and unmarked pick-up who announced "so you want the $89.95 lube special?". No, it's $49, so we got that straight. He looks at the controller gears The cover was already off) and says it's so dry and in need of grease it will soon break. He looks at the rollers and says they all need replaced immediately, that'll be $339. Hmmmm. They look fine to me. "well, i can do them today for $229". No thanks. I would like another remote opener. "sure, theyre $89.95." well, they're about $15 at home depot so no thanks. "i can sell you one for $49.95.' i'm fine with a mark up but starting high and immediately cutting the price tells me they're out to overcharge.
Now he's got to call his boss who does the back-up hard sell on me. While i'm talking to the boss he sprays some wd40 on the hinges. After i've declined all his boss's upsell i tell him i'll just have the lube, adjust and inspection. He says he's already done it. The wd40 spray is it. How about greasing the controller? The chain? Any other moving part? "no, that's motor service, that's extra."
Ok, i pay him but can only get a receipt emailed, he doesn't do paperwork.
When i later get the receipt i see it's a local company with a regus virtual office address, it states i've agreed to a whole slew of limitations on any warranty claim a customer might have, and interestingly, they get to keep all removed parts and can install used parts. Oh, and it says they inspected and tested for safety and it all passed. No test was done and i find it has no safety stop if something is blocking it.
Avoid any company associated with garagedoorrepair.com and any company that has no physical, actual shop and no real employees. I'm out $49.95 for an annoying waste of time .
