Fred's Mobile Service Reviews

Called Fred mobile service (FMS) to schedule them to come look@ car starter. I’d already purchased a starter BUT MY CAR WAS STILL FULLY FUNCTIONAL & DROVE FINE. In fact, I wasn’t even sure if starter was a problem just needed a additional opinion to verify. Nichole, their rep, said fee to check car was $75; $165 for replacement. She said an ‘Orlando’ would come to my house Saturday. Upon arrival, he had no identification on car, clothing or business card that he was associated w/ FMS, except stating his name & FMS by name which matched what Nikki told me. Upon turning on my car, he immediately decided it was my starter but did run some tests including testing my alternator for which HE SHOWED ME ON HIS DEVICE THAT IT WAS WORKING ABOVE AVERAGE. The starter wasn’t horrible, but he felt it best to replace it b-4 it’d get worse. I gave him the starter I bought to install.

For reasons IDK, he decided to take it to a discount Auto Parts to have double checked. Upon return, he said that my NEW starter was bad. I called O'Reillys, where I bought it. They 2 were shocked & asked that he bring it to them to test. He said he didn’t feel it necessary & instead went back to discount Auto store & bought starter there instead. This felt bad all around as I home alone w/ my 2 year old son & my car’s starter removed, so I couldn’t drive, leave or follow him. Plus, I had no $$ on me. Orlando said he had $$ & offered to buy if we could go to ATM after to pay him in cash. Feeling at a loss, I reluctantly agreed.

Upon his return w/ new starter (as far as I know) was installed. He told me fee was $360.This was 2X the $165 quoted to me! I tried in private to call Nikki but no 1 picked up. Now 3 hours in process & needing to go deal w/ other matters, I decided to trust him & go to ATM. It was at that point that my engine & battery lights went on for which NEITHER did B-4 Orlando touched by car. He looked confused & said he’d come back to my house after I ran errands to look at it. Never made it, b/c while driving on 417 , my car started to die! All the lights in the car proceeded to start going on or fluttering & engine started to sputter in a “stop- go” pattern. Completely afraid we were going to get in a crash w/ cars whizzing past us upwards of 60 MPH, I barely made it to next exit b-4 the car died. At a 7-11, I called Orlando, who did not pick up phone. Next called Nikki & asked to speak to Fred. She connected us, for which Fred was cold & said he couldn’t find Orlando. I knew this was a lie b/c by this point, Orlando was calling me back & I informed Fred that Orlando was very much available. Fred agreed to come look at car but dragged his feet as my phone was dying. When he came Orlando was there 2. Both worked on my car for OVER AN HOUR. Their consensus: they did nothing wrong & my alternator was the problem. This after ORLANDO HAD JUST SHOWED ME THAT MORNING THAT MY ALTERNATIVE WAS WORKING FINE.

An intense conversation ensued afterwards as it was clear these men were prepared to deny any accountability & Fred kept playing stupid about the overage fee I was charged like he couldn’t understand the math, (guess he forgot I watched him ask Orlando TWICE why he charged me extra $$, 4 which BOTH x Orlando had no response). Getting fed up, I called police. Upon arrival, Fred completely clamed ignorance, denying any wrongdoing. I explained to the police the whole situation. Fred proceeded to play stupid more focused on his reputation AS PROVEN IN W/ COMPLAINTS ON BBB W/ A D- SCORE. In end, they both left me & my son stranded in a neighborhood I didn’t know w/ a broken car & KEPT all of the overcharged $$. I had roadside assistance w/ my insurance to help get home, but not only did police stay & note that the situation seemed shady & next time to trust my gut, employees at 7-11 felt so bad they gave us free food & slushies. I was even approached by 1 employee who said they overheard them acknowledging I’d been overcharged but that I’d never see/ get my $$ back. I have since had my car checked by PepBoys who verified it was NOT my alternator but that my STARTER WAS IMPROPERLY INSTALLED causing all the problems in my car.

On Saturday June 11th, 2016 Renese Johnson called about replacing a starter on her car, we had sent Orlando out to install it. The initial quote was $165.00 for installation of the starter that she had purchased.

When He arrived it was a different engine and required additional labor to replace the starter. At that time Ms. Johnson said the upcharge was okay. The starter she had purchased was no good and battery was marginal. The starter on her car was grinding and needed to be replaced, so Orlando installed a new starter and the car started -NO NOISES!! Orlando tested the starter and alternator and everything was working well at that time.

Three and a half hours later I received a call from Ms. Johnson stating that her battery was dying and her car was not running well. She made it into a 7-Eleven in Sanford where Orlando and Myself went to see the car

When I got there this Woman was throwing Heavy Racial Slurs at Orlando and Myself. I did have a voltmeter with me and checked the battery was at 8 volts so our next step was to jump the battery and the car started right up indicating that the starter was fine and that the problem was in the battery or the alternator.

I then told her I would fix the problem but I would have to either tow it to my shop or her home at my Expense as I was not on call and had no equipment at that time. She decided it would be better to call the police and get them involved.

I went to my car to call for a tow truck as I told her I would. I was talking with dispatch when the police arrived. She got very belligerent and knocked on my window demanding for me to get off the phone because the police were there so I terminated the call. She told her side of the story to the police and when they asked me my side she proceeded to tell them my side also. I then walked away to the other side of the parking lot while she and the police officer had words.

A second officer came over to where I was sitting and I explained what had happened. I told him that I would tow the car and repair it at my expense (labor). He said to go ahead and call the tow company. I went back to my car and started calling the tow company and AGAIN I was interrupted by her Knocking on my window and harassing me at that point. It was at that point when I told her enough is enough and she will have find her own tow and her own repair!

She then had her vehicle towed to Pep Boys in Apopka they had installed not one....but two alternators in her car that week before finding a loose wire and snapping it in.

Had she let us know that the day before we came to install her starter that she had to have a tow company come and jump her battery because it was dead, we may have looked a little deeper into her charging system....We didn't find out that information till a few days later.

Thank you,
