I am a disabled veteran that has lived at Forest Ridge Senior Apartments since it opened, a bit over 4 years ago. Very beautiful place with nice apartments. Was originally the premiere apartment complex in Citrus County. It has gone seriously downhill since then.
The company, Green Mills Group that built Forest Ridge Apts. is is now building a similar apartment complex in Inverness. They have just received a $200K tax credit from the state. The company that manages the apartments is Royal American Management. While the need for these apartments is very great in Citrus County, the problem is that there is no oversight on the maintenance and upkeep of the common areas.
They have become filthy and unsanitary at Forest Ridge. The stairs and hallways have not been cleaned in over 4 years. Same for the mail room floor. The sidewalks and curbing have turned black as has the pool deck and other common areas. The elevators are not being cleaned.
I am particularly concerned about the putt-putt golf area. It is directly below 12 apartments in Bldg. A. Black mold and mildew have taken over a very extensive area of the green carpeting. This is getting into the apartments on the window sills, blinds, floors, etc. It is causing myself and others to have coughing and sneezing spells.
Management's response is "We don't have the manpower to take care of this". Last month the elevator in Bldg. A was down for 4 days. Several months ago the elevator in Bldg. B was down for 5 days.
Many of the elderly residents on the 2nd and 3rd floors could not take their trash out because they are unable to use the stairs.
Management did not perform any health or welfare checks on the disabled residents living on the 2nd and 3rd floors during the elevator outage. Should there have been an emergency, it would have been a disaster. Many of the older residents do not want to complain. If some do, they are told "If you don't like it here, move".
I looked around Marina del Ray Apartments in Beverly Hills yesterday. They are about 20 years old. Sidewalks clean, halls and elevator clean. Pool and deck very clean. Just generally very well kept. Kudos to management there. The veterans and elderly that reside in Forest Ridge Sr. Apts. deserve better.
On a hilarious side note, a couple weeks ago, management discontinued the coffee service in the club house that had been there since this place opened! I will provide any interested officials a reality tour of Forest Ridge Apts. to verify this information. They can get my contact info from the Chronicle.
