Paid a premium price for "guy with a truck" experience. Problems at each step and unbelievably poor customer service/communication. Moved from NYC to Chicago and initial quotes didn't make sense, so contacted head of the department to straighten out. Such a hassle, but we thought we were ok.

Then, 2 days before our move, we get an email, NOT even a phone call, that because of federal rules for trucker breaks, move needed to be pushed out by 2 days. NOT acceptable, considering everything we had lined up in Chicago to happen post move. And I checked, federal rules didn't change overnight.

Took us 1/2 day of furious calling to get anyone on the phone. Finally they agreed to keep the date. But then we had to deal with lost furniture. They had a lot of our stuff in storage, so we personally went to the facility to decide what to junk.

We physically saw everything in our unit that was supposed to go to Chicago. But bad surprise, they brought an Ikea TV stand (which was supposed to be junked) vs. our antique dresser that is irreplaceable. Also, instead of having 6 guys who moved us out in NYC, we only had 3 guys to move into our new place (which didn't have a service elevator).

We ended up rushing around ourselves to get stuff off the truck at the end of the day. Despite that, the drivers took back a box that had one of our dining room chairs on it--and drove off. I was assured numerous times by Management that the antique dresser and dining room chair would be returned.

3 weeks of having to constantly follow up, I get an email to make a claim. Again, not even a call to take responsibility or even apologize. And the money I got back was a joke compared to the value of the objects. Again, if you have any complication in your move, STAY AWAY from Flat Rate.

Stay away from this company without regard for customer satisfaction. I received a call back from a woman working for this company after I requested a quote. From the beginning she was very rude, abrasive and aggressive. This stemmed from the fact that she assumed I knew everything there is to know about the moving business. When I didn't know certain things or I asked questions she thought that were obvious, the snarky and rude comments would ensue.

First, she asked me whether I thought I had many pieces of furniture to move, I responded not many since I live in a 2 bedroom apartment by myself. After I gave her the exact inventory she became irate because she thought this was more than I had originally stated.

Second, she asked me how many boxes I needed for the move. I asked her the dimensions of the boxes, and what would be appropriate for books, clothing, kitchenware etc. She became pissed off since I didn't know the exact dimensions and that I didn't know that books should be stored in a medium box.

When I asked her whether they charged for mileage between places, whether there are more than 1 flight of stairs for carrying boxes, or for distance between the truck and the house itself, she basically laughed at my face. I asked her this because 2 other companies I had talked to charged for these things.

Finally, when I asked her whether the rate she quoted would be adjusted depending on the actual amount of boxes and moving that they would have to do, she blew her top. By this time I was also very upset and called her out on her very rude service. She immediately cut me off, said she did not want my business and hung up on me. I called back to try to speak to her manager, a man answered this time but also hung up on me when I explained the problem.

Judging by the other reviews of this company this is a disreputable company. Stay away if you want good quality service.

Our experience with FlatRate was terrible! To begin with, our packers from San Francisco packed some of our furniture so poorly that we ended up with a broken bookshelf, a broken full length armoire wardrobe with mirror, and a marble slab board. These things could have been prevented if they took 1 extra step to protect our furniture. For example, they did not remove the coat hangers and a shelving unit inside the wardrobe before wrapping it up!!! Next, they used my marble slab board as the base of a box to support a ton of books which then cracked it! Lastly, they packed a tabletop and bookshelf shelves into the SAME BOX AS OUR TV BOX. I think a TV box is labeled because it should only have a TV in there and not other items. Next, the customer service office is BY FAR THE WORST I'VE EVER EXPERIENCED. They do not consistently answer their phones when they are open. I've left 3-5 voice messages and the manager does not call me back. People have told me she is pregnant which is an excuse but that means if she cannot fulfill her duties to the customers of the company then they should hire someone else to take over in the meantime. I still to this day have not spoken to the manager. Some of the departments and telephone options tell me to leave a message but the mailbox is full SO I CAN'T EVEN LEAVE A MESSAGE. If I do not call them everyday to get a status update on my missing items or when it is going to et delivered, NO ONE IS GOING TO CALL YOU BACK. YOU NEED TO CALL THEM EVERYDAY in order to have anything progress. FLATE RATE SHOULD ABSOLUTELY NOT GET AN A+ BECAUSE THIS IS DECEIVING CUSTOMERS TO THINKING THIS IS A GOOD COMPANY BUT IN REALITY, IT WAS ONE OF THE WORST. I've moved many times in the past 5-8 years and I haven't had a company that breaks my furniture, loses my furniture, and then an office that doesn't respond to me all together. I will be filing a complaint as well. WORST MOVING COMPANY EVER!

DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY!!!

Movers arrived 2 hours late to pick up my stuff in NYC. They were supposed to be done by 1PM and were not done until 3PM so I ended up missing a flight that night. I only received $100 for the movers being late and missing a $600 flight to LA.

After multiple attempts to get an ETA on my stuff I finally was given a window that was way off from my original estimate. The sales team assured me the my stuff would arrive within the quoted window and not the different window that was provided after the fact.

The movers did not show up during the window that was confirmed with me 2 days ago. They missed both windows that I was given as a matter of fact. I have no idea where my stuff is and I can't get ahold of anyone at the company who can tell me where my stuff is and when the movers will arrive.

If there were negative stars I would give this company negative infinity. Do not use this company. Very unreliable and extremely poor communication. The worst moving experience I have ever had after many moves.

Flat Rate Movers at one time was very reputable. I now know they hide behind a nice looking corporate identity that's about it. I visited their offices, let's just say I wouldn't trust them to hold someone else's lunch.

Prior to my visit, I called Flat Rate and spoke to Adam Robb (not his real name)

We agreed on a move price and they told me it was their movers and employees. They would handle everything! They even offered to pack everything.

The day of the move: Our movers showed up in an unmarked truck wearing street clothes. It seems Flat Rate outsourced this to some random moving company. They did insiste they were from FlatRate and we call and confirmed they said it was their crew but not their actual people.

The movers instantly said they thought the job was smaller. One mover complained he had to go home early to see his wife, (she doesnt like him out)They rushed to get everything out-- which we thought would be good.

They left some of the items outside the old location. Thank god a neighbor told us. (we left earlier to open up the new location)

Trying to be responsible we moved our valuables (Fine Art, documents etc) the night before.

The movers did not wrap a lot of the goods. They broke a Bo Concept dining table, They ruined a 6 x 5 mirror and ironically put a hole throught the canvas of a 30k painting. (The one we moved the night before)

They tried to hide behind their insurance (pay per pound) but they did not break the painting during the move. So they were screwed.

I still paid for the move because the sales person Adam Robb assured me the company would do the right thing and pay for the damages. T

They never paid for the damages or any of the items; nor did they ever pay for the painting that was ruined. (well known artist)

In addition, they tried to run the cost of my move several times on my credit card. I guess paying for it once wasn't enough. They felt they deserved 3 times that for breaking everything.

As further proof please feel free to contact me to see photos of the damge or copies of the pol report.

Thugs hidden behind a customer service number!! Check their Yelp reviews too. The only positive reviews are from their relatives and employees. DO NOT USE.

I'm not the bickering or review writing type but the insulting actions and fake names forced me too. We live in a 2000 square foot loft with a full roof and thank god this ordeal is behind us. Put this story and the use of their business behind you and DO NOT USE FLATRATE MOVERS
