I rented a house from Fitzroy Weatherspoon for a year at 555 Main St. in Madawaska, Maine and provided a $1,500 deposit which was to be returned upon my moving out. Under Maine law, the landlord is supposed to either return the deposit or provide a summary list of any damages incurred for which he or she would be witholding return of the deposit. Fitzroy did not return the deposit, nor did he provide a written notice of why he was not returning it. He also did not respond to my request to know which financial institution my deposit was being held at, as providing such information is a requirement of Maine law.
The place was left in much better condition than it was in when I first rented it and there was no reason to withhold my deposit.
