BUYER BEWARE !!!

We went into Fitness Direct in March 2019 looking for a new cardio piece that’s easier on my joints . We were met by Mark Goodman who is the store manager. He followed us around awkwardly , was fairly unfriendly and aloof and gave me a bad vibe from the start. Though somewhat helpful , ( we didn’t need it as I’m a fitness trainer myself and very familiar with his products. ) he hovered over us the entire time we were searching.

We liked a bike but being it was tested only briefly in store , we went home to consider the purchase as we are on a retirement income and must be careful. He was literally begging that we would come back and “ please purchase from him, “ as this was our first time in this fitness store. Must be hard up for business we thought. We made the purchase a few days after. At the bottom of our receipt, fitness direct return policy is printed sounding as if the customer was kept in mind .

It reads :” we want you to be completely satisfied with your purchase, and thus, in the event you are not, Fitness Direct will be happy to accept returns/exchanges of product ( except commercial product ) for a 14 day period after delivery. Any refunds will be for product returned only. Freight, delivery, assembly, installation and Fuel surcharge fees are non refundable. Pickup fees will be assessed. Any product returned after the 14 day period will be accessed a 25% restocking fee, or may be sold on consignment. No refunds on used or special order items. “

We picked up every item form this store with our own vehicle . While the bike was built nice, after riding for 10 mins caused knee pain . We called Mark Goodman saying we wanted to return the item on day 12 , as I tried to see if by adjusting the seat differently , the pain would subside, it did not. When we called him , he was adamant about us coming in for a return only on a day he was scheduled to work , as “ he had to be there “which to us was a big hassle , and thought strange as there are others who work there. Why can’t they help us ?

He said he wouldn’t be in for 3 days after our phone call to him , but would honor his policy. We complied with his request , only to arrive and be told by him there would be a re stock fee , He said he would give us a break and only charge us 15% restock. We disagreed with his offers , as WE were within his own store policy time frame , yet he was not , so felt it entirely crazy he would even implement this whacked off policy of his .

We decided too much $ for us to lose without having anything to show for it , so we left with a different item, while of course feeling bullied and treated absolutely unfairly . We told him how we felt and he said it wasn’t fair to him. He spent “ too much time with us “ . We didn’t ask him to hover, he took it upon himself , and then went on to pressure us with a sale of any kind.

The rower was not quality as it was completely rough feeling as I rowed on it , also a floor model ( as he likes to offer floor models at no additional discounts ) . He gave us zero manuals on the unit when we bought it , saying he would “mail it to us “ so we had no idea how to use several settings along with which heart rate monitor was able to sync with the unit. After 10 days, and of course without receiving any manual he promised us , we called to ask for a refund , and again had us abide by HIS work schedule vs our own .

It was very inconvenient to say the least as it happens to be nearly 100 miles away from our house as well. We came into his store asking for a Visa refund and Mark refused , saying he “ had spent too much time with us “ he wouldn’t even allow a return with a re stock fee when we asked. My husband picked out gym puzzle flooring for an exchange. Mark Goodman said it wasn’t enough $ spent , so offered store credit only , but we didn’t trust this guy at all after realizing he does not even honor his own return or exchange policy , we didn’t want him to have our money already paid thru our CC to him , without an item to show for it, leaving with the thought we would buy something eventually !

We didn’t NEED anything else. My husband was at his store for hours , while he continued to bring item after item up to his sales counter with Mark continually saying , the amount is not enough, find something else and that it wasn’t right or fair to him as he had spent “ so much time with us “ . Yes , my husband asked him why he wasn’t honoring his own store return policy and he clearly was just concerned about making commission and plus from us. See below !

Keep in mind, we needed NOTHING more , only wanted a refund on our CC , and didn’t want to do business with this guy anymore ., as we came to not trust him. My husband picked items off his website as we both anticipated he may not honor his policy at all. He REFUSED to order anything we had wanted to exchange for us even off his own website. It had to be “ in stock in his store that day. “ My husband left with 6 different items that this storage manager Mark Goodman bullied him into buying , leaving him with an add on to his receipt :” FINAL SALE , no refunds or exchanges “.

Upon arriving home , we priced each item out , realizing Mark Goodman price gouged us for every single item that day as part of his exchange with us ! He arbitrarily raised his prices to whatever amount he wanted to charge us , as arriving home and comparing our receipt with his websites advertised prices that very day , we realized this guy not only doesn’t stand behind his own store policy, but steals your money too if you’re not aware ! We are still working on settling this dispute with Visa as we would gladly return all of the items we never wanted in the first place to him so he can resell this junk , to get our money back. We are currently working with a complaint against his business as he should not be allowed to operate anywhere let alone San Diego, what city would what an unethical business like this operating in their limits?

Bottom line : BUYER BEWARE !!! Don’t shop here ! Do yourself a favor and read Fitness Direct reviews online before you end up spending thousands of dollars only to find out that if you need to return or exchange anything that this business doesn’t honor their own store policy ! I don’t write reviews , but consider this actually happened to us and you’ve been warned !

We spent about 2,000$ at this store only to be treated with not only the WORST customer service we’ve ever experienced , but price gouging , and unethical business practices. This guy is a liar and cheat , so that strange demeanor you may notice when you enter his store , please pay attention to it ! Wish we did, we should’ve ran the opposite direction ! This store needs to go out of business as I can imagine I’m not the only one this has happened to !

They have very expensive items and all I can say is with a stern warning :” Dont buy anything here “ , if it’s not what you expected , they don’t CARE if the customer is satisfied or not , he wants to make sure you make his Tesla payment and treating clients unethically is not beyond him ! Makes me sick thinking about what he did to us , so watch your money and where you spend it , please buy from a reputable business who will HONOR their store return policy vs steal your money from you blind, to line their own wallets. RUN AWAY as fast as you can in the opposite direction !!
