We hired Firwood Design Group two years ago to help us split a plot of land into multiple plots. The contract was for $20,000 and would take 6 months. Two years later they have charged us over $45,000 and there is still no end in sight. Legally these types of contracts are allowed to go over the quote by a "reasonable" amount, which is limited to 20%... NOT 120%!
Looking at the billing breakdown they have charged us for over 160 hours of CAD (Computer Aided Drawing) and produced nothing more than a simple drawing of property lines. I took CAD courses in college and could make the drawing myself in a couple hours. There are separate line items in the bill for survey crew and such, so the CAD line items certainly don't include any of those.
Every month we get charged for more CAD hours with nothing to show for it. I've never seen such a blatant attempt to defraud a customer this way. They were counting on our ignorance, but that was a mistake.
