I just received a supposed collection notice from R M S (Receivable Management Services Corp.), PO Box 361595, Columbus, OH 43236 for a claim amount of $295.00 from FirstEnergy Solutions. I went with another electric utility provider in October, Constellation an Exelon Company which offered a lower rate.
Everything was transparent and my utility bill still arrives from OhioEdison as it did before but in the account balances by company it shows Ohio Edison and a fee, Constellation NewEnergy Inc., and a fee or charge and FirstEnergy Solutions Corp., and next to it the amount due 0.00. Now I paid the total on the bill and have for the past seven years since moving to Ohio as I always have throught electronic payment from my Credit Union. Today out of nowhere I get a collection notice that I owe FirstEnergy 295.00?
I have copies of all my bills and after pouring over them I can't find any unpaid balances and when I called RMS they tried like heck to bully me into paying right away by criedit card and I told them no, not until I call FirstEnergy and Ohio Edison and the Public Utilities Commission for Ohio and get to the bottom of this bill. I heard her say "But you will......that is when I hung up on her. It's late on a Friday and the first business day after New Years I start my calls. I see so many complaints against FirstEnergy I'm very suspicious now about the charge.
As many have already stated and complained about FirstEnergy Solutions, I also was sent a cancellation fee notice when I switched to a more reasonable energy supplier. I went with FirstEnergy when they had good rates, and also there was no term limits, or fee to switch to them, or to cancel out of their contract. Now when their rates have gone up and many are stepping away from FirstEnergy Solutions, they are self-imposting a $100 cancellation fee. Trying to call them has turned into a problem. No where did they have any information on when they "added" this cancellation fee, yet in the process of switching from them, I get a notice of this "self imposed fee." I have reached out to the better business bureau as well as other agencies, and find out that many are in the same boat.
