On February 20, 2017 I called First Choice Electricity (the electric company I had service with) to schedule the disconnection of the electricity at the apartment I resided in from February 3, 2016 to February 28, 2017. The disconnect date was scheduled for Monday, February 27, 2017. The last time I was in the apartment was Sunday, February 26, 2017 as I was cleaning up the apartment. On February 28, 2017, I received a letter in the mail from Oncor electricity Company (dated 02-27-2017-which was my disconnect date) that stated the electrical box had been tampered with and was replaced upside down. Oncor subsequently charged me approximately 470 dollars for tampering with the box. I have disputed this charge and have complained to First Choice Electricity, Oncor and the Public Utility Commission Dept. All of which have told me that since the electricity was in my name, I am responsible for the charge. I have not paid the fine because I did not tamper with the box, and of course they have sent the bill to collections. I also find it strange that the employee who swore to this false statement of tampering is blacked out on the affidavit. My electric bill was never over 40 dollars the whole year I rented the apartment (with the exception of July). I was told that they will not dispute who did the tampering, just that I am responsible for the charge. I have been in law enforcement for over 26 years and would never cheat, steal or lie and above all do something that could cost me my career and I find it very offensive that this company is trying to force me to pay for something that I did not do! I plan to take this as far as I have to so that this practice of trying to force citizens to pay for false charges will stop! In America, the accused have a right to know who is making the charge. When I go to court, I have to identify myself - why is this person’s name blacked out on their sworn affidavit? Sincerely, Carol Carter Steward
On November 9, 2016 i received my electric bill and discovered i have two collection recovery fees each for 29.95 i contacted first choice power /direct energy to explain what was the charges i have been with this company since 2007 never have i seen this charge on my bill when it was explained to me by a supervisor that they charge that when they mail out a termination letter i explained to her i only received one termination letter and the bill was paid before it was turned off if the bill is not paid three days after the due date you will be charged that 29.95 i asked her why was i charged twice 29.95 she could not explain that to me but said she could put in a request to have one removed i explained to her that i had spoken to a customer service rep before to see when was my termination date he told me a different date then what i received and never mentioned anything about the 29.95 collection recovery fee
I had recently tried to switch from prepaid lights to a company where i could get a regular monthly bill. I chose first choice power. HUGE MISTAKE!!!. The first time i signed up they ran my credit and the deposit was 50 dollars. Which i paid July 22nd 2015. Apparently 3 days later i recieved a call from first choice power telling me i had a switch hold on my account and they could not cut the service on. Ok so if that was the case i told them i wanted my deposit back. Which was refunded. I had already spoken to 2 people between July 22nd and the day they refunded my 50 dollars. Apparently on their website it says after 15 days of inactivity or a person chooses not to pay the deposit to get service cut on they delete the account. Thats a crock of s***!!!. So here we are on August the 13th and once again I pay them a 50 dollar deposit to start service.
Because thats what i was told the required deposit was. Now this was probably the fifth person i had talked to between July 22nd and August 13th going through the enrollment process over and over again and them runninv my credit. These people dont know what the **** they are doing!!. So i thought that that was it and now all i would have to do is wait the usual e to 7 business days to start service. WRONG!! I get a call from them August 17th telling me that i have two accounts and the deposit is 400 dollars. WHAT THE F****?!!!!!!. How the heck did it go from 50 to 400 and where did the second account come from? I called several times and noone would listen. I became extremely upset and when i called back to Find out what happened noone could tell me why they would ask for a 400 dollar deposit after they had already ran my credit and the first deposit 50. Clearly a mistake that someone from their company made. And they refused to admit they messed up somewhere. What happened?
