Recently, the government has passed a bill imposing 7.5 percent VAT on all the private universities and private medical colleges. This step has faced harsh criticism from different quarters as it will rapidly increase tuition fees of these institutions. In protest, agitated students of different private universities gathered on the streets of different parts of Dhaka wearing black badges and black attires. At their sit in, they announced that they will continue their protest through various kinds of activities such as street painting, processions and cartoon exhibitions until the removal of the VAT. They have also given an ultimatum to the government till July 31, 2015 to withdraw this tax. Due to this 7.5 percent VAT, costs of education in private universities and medical colleges will increase ten folds which quite is expensive for most of the students of Bangladesh.
