The other day I woke up to water all over my kitchen floor. I realized it was coming from the refrigerator. A 4 year old, $4000, LG refrigerator. I opened it and found it was not cooling. All of the food was ruined and defrosted.
I set up an online appointment with my Home Warranty Company. By the time they got back to me, they said the soonest they could come out was 3 weeks away. Since this is the only refrigerator in my house, this was not going to work.
I desperately spent a good part of the day trying to get someone to come fix my refrigerator. I had no luck. Some businesses did not even answer their phones. The ones I did contact, said they did not work on LG refrigerators.
I looked up “refrigerator repair” online and a company called “fast refrigeration service” showed up first on the list. They claim same day service, free estimates with repairs, etc… I called the mobile phone number listed. The person at the other end said hello and then paused. I was thinking this was the wrong number because you would think the person would have said something like, fast refrigeration service, can I help you, instead of just saying hello. I asked him, is this fast refrigeration services? He said yes. Then just paused. I asked him if he came to my town, (which is approximately 57 miles away from his business). He said yes. I asked him if he worked on LG refrigerators. He said yes. I then explained to him the reason for the call. He said it would be a $65 service call and that they could come out between 2 and 4pm that day. I was happy about this because finding an LG refrigerator service person near my town is almost impossible.
I should have realized when the guy answered the phone the way he did, there were going to be problems.
So, I waited for the service person to show up. At 4pm, the service person, Frank, called and said he was about an hour away because the traffic was bad. I explained to him that this was not a problem and that I would be home.
At 5:30pm, Frank called me again and complained that my town was too far away and that the service charge would now be $90. I protested and told him that I was told it was $65 by someone I spoke to when I set up the appointment. He said I know but your house is too far away. He then said do you want me to come or not.
At this point, my refrigerator had not worked for 3 days. I told him to come.
When he came to my house he quickly looked at my refrigerator, like 3 minutes, and said that my compressor was bad. He said it would cost about $1500 and would take a month to fix because of waiting for the part from LG. He then said I can’t help you.
He then wrote his invoice. I explained to him that I did not think it was right to pay $90 when I was told it would be $65. I asked him if he was the person I spoke to when I set up the appointment. He said yes. I said, “So even though you told me you would come to my town and you told me the charge was $65, you are not going to honor this?” He said yes. Its $90. He said I am losing money on this. I told him this was not right and paid him. He then said he was never going to service my town again because it is too far away. I told him that would probably be a good idea. I also told him to think about my time he wasted since he showed up 1.5 hours later. He did not care.
As he left, he then tried to sell me a refrigerator he had in his vehicle for $350.
His invoice he wrote says “All appliance and HVAC Service, Inc.”, but online, he is under “fast refrigeration service.”
Whatever you do, DO NOT give this guy your business.
