My boyfriend and I went in to find an engagement ring. Fantasy Diamonds asked us what our budget was (fair question), but instead of showing us good diamonds within our budget they showed us fake diamonds and tried to sell them as top quality ones to rip us off. It's akin to going to a website selling a product at $10 and saying you are saving 90% because the original price was $100 when the website just made up the $100 price tag just to make you feel as if you saved 90%. What really tipped us off that they were taking advantage of us was they were really pressuring us to buy GAI certified diamonds. GAI is a fake diamond certification lab that is purposely made to sound very similar to the reputable GIA certified lab. No one in the jewelery industry uses GAI. I texted my brother-in-law's sister who works for a jewelry store since they tried to sell me a 1.8 carat diamond for $9,900 that was GAI certified. It sounded like a good deal. However, she never heard of GAI and had no idea if the diamond they were selling was even legit (you must buy a diamond that is lab certified so you know you are getting an accurate carat, cut, and clarity). When I confronted them about it, they were insistent that GAI is reputable and my brother-in-law's sister didn't know what she was talking about. They turned from being extremely patient, helpful, and nice to defensive, aggressive, and disrespectful. We ended up buying another diamond from another place and when we told the appraiser about Fantasy Diamond and what they tried to do to us, the appraiser estimated that the diamond they were trying to sell us at $9,900 was worth more or less for $2,000. The appraiser highly recommended we inform the public of Fantasy Diamond's dishonest sales technique because he said a reputable jeweler would never lie and tell you GAI is a good lab. It is not. They pretend to be nice, helpful, and reputable when they think they are making a sale with you and will tell you lies to get it done. You cant trust them. They will lie, pretend to be your family, and say anything to rip you off.
