Family Tree DNA Reviews

I ordered aand paid for DNA kit on 11 June 2020 and have not received it yet!!! I have sent numerous emails and all interaction from their side has ceased. When dealing with this company, there can be no better statement than "caveat emptor".

I have purchased a DNA kit the results of which have been delayed for three 4 week periods in succession . It should be noted this was done without the courtesy of an email or a call to inform myself of the reason for the delay so I complained to the BBB and they responded with alacrity and undertook that my results would be available yesterday since it passed QC very easily .

Lo and behold when I logged on to my dashboard it had been delayed once again without so much as a simple explanation why . Upset I visited their Facebook page to complain only to find that there are many complaints on this page citing the same problem as can be seen from the comments

https://www.facebook.com/FamilyTreeDNA/posts/2307618279290540?comment_id=2310370769015291¬if_id=1554967354625101¬if_t=feedback_reaction_generic

This either means that they lack the capacity to privide the sevrice paid for in a timeous and organised fashion or they are scamming people . I would advise everyone to stay away from this company and rather use Ancestry or some other DNA testing company since they seem to have much fewer delivery and customer suppourt problems . What a ripoff

I have proven (to my satisfaction) their testing and research methods are slipshod at best. I am a Native Cherokee and am ¾, by blood, Cherokee. I was born and raised on the Cherokee Nation in Oklahoma. My mother is 100% Cherokee and my father is 1/2 Cherokee. Both sides of my family have been on the Dawes rolls of the Cherokee Nation since the early 1900s. We have traced my maternal family back to the early 1600s. We have traced my father's mother's Cherokee roots to the middle 1700s. Family Tree tells me I am less than .1% Native American. I called Family Tree and they told me the magine of error was +/- 10%. That doesn't even put them in the ball park. Their DNA testing appears to be slipshod at best.

One week ago I placed an online order for a Family Tree DNA test kit. I received an email indicating that my order had been received and confirmed and the funds disappeared from my bank account. I NEVER received any notification of any kind regarding the details of the shipment of my order.

The first information I received from FTDNA regarding my order was an email indicating that my test kit had been returned. I indicated that because my order had been returned I now demanded that I be provided with a tracking number for the second posting of my order. The only response I received was a short sentence informing me that my test kit would be shipped that same day. No mention of any kind regarding the tracking information.

Up until this point, 24 hours afterwards, I have sent more than half a dozen emails replying to the last email I received from FTDNA indicating that unless my test kit was shipped with a tracking number and I be provided with that tracking number, FTDNA was to cancel my order IMMEDIATELY.

I also submitted a complaint to FTDNA so-called Customer Support regarding the non-delivery of my order and subsequent refusal to acknowledge and comply with my demand my order be canceled and have yet to receive any response from there either.

If you wish to read the contents of the actual email dialog (Warning - some crude and rude language on my part!) you can read it at

www.chazwilliams.x10host.com/ftdna-bs.pdf

In addition to filing this complaint, I am also submiting a complaint to the Consumer Protection Division of the Washington State Attorney General's Office.

As I explain in considerable detail in my emails to FTDNA, their behavior is so far outside any and all appropriate professional standards that it amounts to being criminal in nature. By that I mean it is a deliberate and willful decision to act contrary to established standards of professional behavior and thus constitutes engaging in a conflict of interest - which certainly is accurately described as an abuse of personal discretion where no such personal discretion even exists. And abuse of discretion is a short-cut to negligence which immediately escalates to discrimination (double standard of behavior) and harassment (pattern of behavior not supported by law). Yes, copy and paste that sequence of civil liabilities if you like it as much as I do. And then remember to add in the fact that any cooperative effort involved in that behavior pattern that involves two separate divisions of FTDNA (such as online sales and customer support!?) also constitutes collusion, conspiracy and potential corruption.

I have read some responses in this forum that claim to be directly from FTDNA that attempt to diffuse the lack of credible customer sevice these repeated complaints clearly indicate exists. Should any of those trolls feel motivated to respond to my complaint, remember that only adds another participant to the collusion and conspiracy aspect of this situation. So PLEASE, do respond and make my arguments even stronger. I strongly suggest any such trolls actually send their message back to FTDNA to act in a more professional and acceptable manner instead of further harassing me.

My best recommendation to anyone considering FTDNA to explore their DNA is to look elsewhere to spend your money. You can import your DNA tests from other sources and still access the FTDNA database and study groups. That is exactly what I am going to do as I have already had my DNA analyzed by Ancestry.com.

I recently purchased a DNA report from Family Tree DNA. After receiving my test, I did my swab and returned for results. Received results and it looked like chinese arithmatic. There is NO way any individual with average intelligenc can understand the test reslult. It is so full of jibber jabber and numbers that look like a Einstine calculation.

I emailed back and explained my issue and there is NO way anyone can understand. Well here comes the upsell! Well if you purchase all these add ons you can reasonably understand your results. After reviewing the add ons, its still Greek! DO NOT PURCHASE this test. Spend a little more and go with a better company that has results that you can understand. I reuested a refund and was told, sorry you already used up the test.

I purchase a DNA kit promising to identify my maternal geoneology. I have not received any information that shows me my mothers relatives. If I make a further request, they ask for more money. The names they have provided as my relatives dont' match at all to what I know is true. The names appear random. They have provided DNA strands that mean absolutely nothing to me.

We paid $407.95 for the Y-DNA 111 test and 169.00 for thr MtDNA tests.

We received the MtDNA test results and seem ok (but not confident since they are failing in our Y-DNA test).

They failed to give us our Y-DNA-111 tests since we paid Dec 10, 2015. Today is MAR 26, 2016. We've been waiting over 104 days and no hope of ever receiving; they delayed us 3 times in a row. They refuse to answer their phone. The emails response states, it is a quality control issue. We precisely followed instructions and sent sample exactly as requested. Which means to me they failed in the lab and management. Would have loved the results. Must go to another company since they are unable to fulfill as promised in 8 weeks (4 to 5 months is way too long). Very upset and very frustrating. Reported to the BBB. Be very careful, they can produce easy DNA tests but not Y-DNA 111 at least with me they can't.

After sending my mtdna, I also sent my autosomal dna. From that test I received limited results (mtdna). But my autosomal results were limited and later I was told there were no results in that file. Sent off 37 marker DNA for one of my relatives, received only 3 results and was sent to ysearch to upload my gedcom file. Once again, I received the 500 server error and page not available. I went to a lot of trouble finding out how to make my gedcom and then find it on my computer so I could upload it. Somehow I got my autosomal file info in a file on my computer. I can't read it, but I have the info. They report to me that I have a new match on my ydna relative file sent on the above listed kit,

but it is a 12 chromosome and I paid for a 37 marker test. I have sent many reports problems but all they do is send me my kit numbers and passwords and I still cannot upload my gedcom file. I have 2 of my ydna tests sent a while back and I want to upgrade them to 37 markets, but am afraid to do so. They tell me I have a very small gedcom information on my files which is the info they requested on the ysearch page but is not my gedcom. I have been very disappointed in the results I have received. My sister says that we received paper info in the mail on ydna in 2007, but have not received any paperwork on my latest requests.
