Bought a historic rifle through the CMP In Alabama ( civilian marksmenship program) it was a gift to myself for enduring some personal medical hurtles. I paid for the gun at the CMP. FINE FIREARMS was to receive the rifle in California and do the DROS requirement
the gun arrived on 11/17/17. I inspected and accepted the gun. Fine Firearms was to begin the California 10 day waiting period. I returned to the shop 11 days later to pick up the rifle. At first, they could not find the rifle. About 15 minutes later, they found the gun, but not the paperwork. Then they found the paperwork. The DROS process had not been started. I could not have my rifle. I had to wait another 10 days. I was told by Rick, the manager, that they screwed up and they would not charge me the transfer fee ($75) or the DROS fee ($35).
I returned 10 days after that. When picking up the rifle I was told by the employee that I had to pay the transfer and DROS fee. I objected and told him why. He said I would have to talk with Jon, the “manager”. I could tell the guy knew who I was and what the situation was. He was waiting on a young woman at the time. I waited for almost 20 minutes while he laughed, joked, shared stories, gave advice to this young woman.
Finally, it was my turn. Suddenly, no more cordial, joking Jon. I explained to him what he already knew. He said I was lucky they were only charging me $75 transfer fees, they usually charged $100.he said he would not waive the DROS fee. Clearly, he projected to me an attitude that I better not complain or he would not give me my rifle. The rifle I had already paid for. So, I paid, took my rifle home, and wrote them a demand letter for monies I felt owed. He called twice, leaving messages that he felt I was owed something, but he never followed through.
after a few days I contacted him again. He stated that his business, car and home had been vandalized and that I was responsible for the damage. I need it and advised him if he felt that way that he should call the police. He did. The officer contacted me for my side of the story. He said I was not in trouble for anything and that I had the right to persue compensation.
i put a review on Yelp, Yahoo, Google. I filed a complaint with the CMP and the ATF. I am taking legal action in small claims. It was rude, it was wrong, it was poor customer service as well as questionable inventory control per ATF requirements. I wrote a statement of facts on the company’s FaceBook page. It was deleted and I have been blocked. Nice try, but I will not go away on this.
