I received a bill from NJ EZpass for not paying a toll at the Deleware Memorial Bridge. I sent in my records that showed that my MD EZpass picked up the toll and it was paid. The times on the NJ EZpass were a few minutes off from the time my MD EZPass picked up the toll. I told them I couldn't possibly be in two places at once and that it was clearly a mistake. They responded by letting me know I did not have to pay the $7.
Then I receive a notice that they are sending my bill for $47.25 to collections becasue that is the service fee that accrued and I never paid it.
I called to ask if they recieved my paperwork and they said I still had to pay the $49.25 even though the actual toll of $7 was excused after they read my dispute. They had a supervisor call me back. She promised me the bill would be thrown out and that I would receive a letter in the mail stating that I did not owe anything! I did not recieve such letter. Instead, I received another collections notice for the $49.75 becasue they waived the $7 but said I still owe the service charge??
The customer representative told me to go ahead and pay the $49.25 and it would be reimbused to me, but if I didn't pay it, it would go to collections. I absolutey refuse to believe this and am not taking any chances. I also refuse to pay the fee because I am certain that they are doing this to many others and are making a ton of money on false pretenses.
