I sold a couple by the name of David and Naomi Campbell my pet Moluccan Cockatoo. I emphasized to them that he his a family member to me and it was extremely important he goes to a home that he is raised the same as I raised him and given the time out of his cage and one on one intervention the same or more time than I gave him. I also emphasized and made in a requirement that we needed to keep in touch for the first few months, and on a regular basis especially for the first week. I also said I would be coming into Fort Lauderdale to see him periodically and wanted pictures and videos back of him. Both David and Naomi reassured me they'd comply, they understood, they were christians, they loved birds and Nikki would not be resold, infact if he ever had to be resold he'd be sold back to me. They promised me his home would be not locked up in the cage in the store, but he'd be traveling from their place to the store, to shopping trips, to the beach, for walks, etc.
And I could come visit him whenever I wanted (basically during store hours) As soon as they took him it became a nightmare. I tried texting and calling them the next day to see how he made out from the 4 hour trip. No response. I was getting a little frantic... I knew they got in late, and were in the midst of getting Nikki settled in and I guess they had their store tented for termites so were a little busy, but nowadays even a quick "hey i got your message, Nikki did great and we'll contact you in couple days.." but instead they ignored me.... finally late in the day I got a response after having to be a pest... and David sent me a video late evening. I told him I'd be sending him videos of Nikki as well because it was so important for the new people to know Nikkis fun times and what he liked. David said he'd love the videos.
My daughter works for an airline and has a trip to Fort Lauderdale so I made plans to seeing Nikki in next couple weeks from selling him. I decided to google the store to get the physical address and up came the reviews along with it. In the reviews there were several negative ones, and I guess David and Naomi had just bought this store, (something they did not share with me)... anyhow the reviews since they bought it are very negative reviews, calling them a bird mill, stating the bird cages and water is dirty, birds are not socialized... etc. etc. So of course this sparked a bit of anxiety in me so I questioned Nikki and David on this matter.... WOW ... did they freak. I did not accuse them at the time, I just brought it to their attention. Infact I tried to give them the benefit of the doubt that maybe it wasnt' their store. They all of a sudden quit talking to me completely. I would've thought they would've appreciated me being a little concerned and just welcomed me to come visit them and make my judgement from that. Nope, infact quite the opposite - they have told me to not come into their store or they'd call the authorities.
This was not in our agreement at all to them taking Nikki. Nikki is not to be caged up in a store and never taken out on a daily basis. Nikki was given walks everyday ... EVERYDAY (weather permitting, and here in Florida believe me that would be almost everyday)... Nikki was taken out of his cage and given ONE ON ONE time everyday min 2 hours.... and on my off days of no work he was out of his cage usually all day. I was PROMISED by this couple this would be his LIFE. I was told they do NOT sell birds or buy birds. Now I find out this is a bird mill. The cages supposedly dirty and water dishes dirty. They're overrun with birds. And they have cut me off from ever seeing my bird again... they say they bought him and he's no longer mine. May I remind them they bought him on conditions. I do have texts as well as our conversation was witnessed by my husband in verifying all this but unfortunately no contract. So let this be a warning to all... get everything in writing. DO NOT let anyone buy your bird without FIRST doing a home screening. After the fact does not work. Nikki is now the one that will be living his life in sadness and torment. If you go into this store say Hi to Nikki for me, he had a small bald spot on his chest at the time. And please if you see a filty store, or cages report this store to proper authorities. And do not trust these people. They do everything in the name of christianity as a cover up. A christian would never act this way or go against their word. The saddest thing is Nikki is now the one paying for this. They told me in one of my texts that I'm obsessed with my bird and typical animal activist person. They didn't have to buy my bird...there were plenty of other birds they could've bought... I had conditions on buying my bird. They had no right to changing those conditions at all. So please people boycott stores like this that have no real love for the birds, or animals. And boycott those that use the name of christianity to hide behind. This is what brings christianity a bad name.
