Etag is a business that does business online and I did not want to buy services to transfer my title. I wanted to obtain a duplicate title. I paid $99.00 and email them for a refund of my funds because of the mistake. They emailed me back and indicated that I would have to purchase the services to obtain my title in order to receive a full refund. However, I found another way to obtain my title locally.
I called today and the person said that if I didn't want to order the title that it cost cause a $50 cancellation fee. What a bunch of bull! I could understand that the cancellation fee would be $10 or $15 dollars, but $50 for cancelling my order. WOW!!!! I'm so pissed right now.
Well, a lesson learned.... don't trust online businesses unless you find them on the scammer's list. is a business that do business online and I did not want to buy services to transfer my title. On October 7, 2021 I was on the Florida Department of motor vehicles website researching DMV office hours and location. I noticed a advertisement for online title services from etags.com They promised a fast title within minutes to save wait lines in the DMV. Upon trying to figure out the website before I knew it I was paying $99 before I had even input the information. After I pay the $99 I tried to input the Vin number to a 1977 jeep with a 12 digit Vin.
The only Vin numbers the website would recognize were 17 digit Vin numbers. The website would kick me back every time and tell me that my Vin number was invalid even though I had the title in my hand and I was reading the Vin number right off the title. After wasting a couple hours on their website which would've cost me far less time in the DMV I emailed the company with photos of my title and registration. I told them to either submit my title application manually or refund my money immediately because I would go the following day to the DMV and register my title.
At around 4 o'clock the following day I received a call from somebody claiming to work for the company. I was in the DMV at that time. I asked them to return my call in one hour. They never return my car but I called the company back and they laughed at me. They Told me that they would never refund my money and they told me that I had lost it. I told him I would file a fraud report and I would follow up with the attorney general Florida as well as my credit card company to dispute the charges.
The agent laughed at me again. I asked to speak to a manager and he told me that a manager was not available but the manager would call me back before the end of the business day. It's now 10:30 PM and that manager never called me back. I spoke with Discover card and Discover card promised to immediately pull back the charges as soon as They were posted. Discover card said that they consider this absolute fraud and they do not tolerate it. I'm very disgruntled that different state government websites will sponsor fraudulent businesses such as these and I will be reaching out to the state of Florida to find out why they don't pull businesses like this off of their website.
If $99 is enough money to ruin their business reputation over It's amazing to me truly. Incidentally I was able to go to the DMV and within minutes walked out of the DMV with a printed title in my hand. The entire title cost me under $100. I saved a lot of money by going through the department of motor vehicles and please do the same yourself and never trust a fraudulent company like etags.com
On 12/07/2020 I logged onto my local CA DMV and proceeded to renew the registration on 2 vehicle plates. Somehow without my knowledge or consent, in the process my request was transfered to etags LLC, an independent entity, who then proceeded to complete the registrations adding excessive & unnecessary fees to the normal cost.
On the same day 12/07/2020, I called the told free number 888-633-5332 (a few minutes after my order) to request a cancellation due to duplicate payments. The other payment was from my bank auto payment was sent the same day. As it was after their listed business hours I called the next morning at 9 am to confirm cancellation & was informed the registration stickers has already been sent. The agent on the phone told me that the voicemail was handled by another department. I returned ALL mails from eTags.
There were several emails to eTags to request the FULL refund but they refused. I stopped credit card payment & notify the attorney general, which I did. I went to Ripoff.com & noticed numerous other individuals have also complained about this scam.
This site will misdirect you to their private site for vehicle re-registration and then racks on a lot of extra fees, which in my case amounted to 50$ more than the cost on our County Tax site.
When you realize upon pushing “checkout” that you have been misdirected and abandon it because the cost is so high, you are bombarded by emails from them to “complete your registration”.
The emails are from a box not monitored. There is no “unsubscribe” in the email which is illegal.
When you attempt to file a report service request on their site, you are unable to because there is no “customer number”.
When you call their service department to request that your email is removed, they claim your email is not registered.
The only way out is to report this fraud to State Attorney General and BBB and let them sort it out because it violates several laws governing email transmission.
I did a web search for the Leon County Tax Collector in Florida in order to renew my vehicle tags. I was directed to the etags.com website and renewed the tags for 2 vehicles at a licensing cost of $72.20. When my credit card bill arrived a week later, there were 2 charges of $58.50 and $65.50 for a total of $124.00.
This webite has no affiliation with any agency in the state of Florida. They do not answer their Customer Support phone line and do not respond to the "call back" option. It is also impossible to send an email to them as their form requires a "Customer I.D. No." and that number is not found on any accompanying paperwork or ordering forms. I am going to dispute thes charges through my credit card provider.
I just want to let the world know that this is not a DMV agency. I paid double what my registration costs. They are a complete rip off and I would NOT advise reviewing anything with them.
We needed to renew our tag. We found etags on google search and found etags, with great ratings. After we filed everything the total came up to 36$and some change. It does say that they charge fees that they didnt show, unless you go in a higlited link where all tge fees are displayed. Apparently, we should have been charged and extra 28$.fine... Why does my bank account shows they charged us 106$?! Thats 3 times the amount they said they charged. They are taking advantage of people. Please close this business...
I was misled by an internet scam called etags into renewing my vehicle tag believing it was the Polk County Florida Tax Collector. I found that I was charged over twice what the cost of the State of Florida decal fee was in convenience fees, handling and shipping fees, service fees, agency fees etc by a company about whom I knew nothing. This is fraud and theft of both my money and the taxpayers of Polk County Florida. The Attorney General of Florida, Pam Bondi advised the office of Polk County Tax Collector that this is perfectly legal in 2015 and has taken no further action since.
Called after I was billed over double what regestration fee would be for one year renewal. Contacted slick operator who probably had a cheat sheet for any inquiry a consumer had. Felt the operator was "too smart for his own good." Fees were sheer garbage. They did not make it clear, in my opinion, that they were not with the DMV. Angry about excessive charges. Hope someone does thier research and doesn't use this outfit so they go out of business.
