My wife and I wanted to do a closure of the Roth IRA and open a new Roth IRA with USAA Banking and put in the funds we received from selling a piece of real estate. We also wanted to get the Think or Swim Brokerage account separated from the Roth IRA. We started the process in the beginning of July and were repeatedly told that it would only take a couple of weeks to accomplish this. After having to deal with the incompetence of Equity Trust, A check was finally sent after 7 weeks of their total run around and screw up. The incompetence was unbelievable. We were waiting for the check and called in and found out that Equity Trust was waiting for a $100 re-registration fee for the Think or Swim account. We were never told this. It took two weeks for the reregistration to occur because they (Equitty Trust) kept telling us that the wording was not correct on the letter from TD Ameritrade for the re-valuation of the account. After dealing with that frustration for two weeks, I finally asked how it needed to be stated so we could get that done. I was finally given what they (Equity Trust) wanted. The sad thin is there was only 1 word missing, and because they (Equity Trust) could not think on their own, Equity Trust kept rejecting the letter. Finally that is all settled, then they deduct closing fees from the check. All of theses steps were done one day at a time. Instead of finishing up the account totally, only one step per day was done. This allowed them to keep the money for the Roth IRA just a little longer.
There are so many other things that this company has done that it would take me another two hours to describe. Instead, my recommendation is to avoind Equity Trust unless you never want to see your money again. When I informed them that we were leaving, we became an enemy of Equity Trust and Equity Trust did everything possible to make the closure of the Roth IRA as painful as possible.
Never deal with this company. Find another company to open your IRA, Roth IRA in. You will have less migraines, nausea and sleepless nights if you do. This company is a total scam and nightmare to deal with.
