Emerald Vanlines gave us a reasonable estimate for our household belongings of 2000 cubic ft. Belongings in 2 storage units, 10 x 10 x 90% full, 720 cubic feet; 10 x 20 x 8, 90 % full 1440 cu. ft. Total for volume could only be 2160 cubic feet. (max). Move was brokered out to Global vanlines who arrived on 10/25/22. This was 4 hours later than their ETA to pick up belongings and immediately demanded an upcharge of 3000 cu. ft and and additional $7000 to be agreed upon before they would load anything. 3 hours later our representative signed the contract under duress(after 7 hours of waiting). They held our belongings hostage for 2 weeks with multiple attempts to negotiate with no avail.
Finally delivery came to San Antonio on 11/6/22. Not one thing would be unloaded until we paid the $7000 plus additional fees in cash. Our furniture was broken, hardward was missing, belongings from another family left in our garage, multiple of our own boxes missing. Baby Grand piano was left on it's side since movers lost the hardware. Severe cracking of piano frame noted because of mishandling during the move. I requested an arbitration booklet from the driver who never gave it. We are disgusted by poor service and manipulative robbery of almost twice additional cost from our original estimate.
We are disgusted and angry at how we have been treated and afraid for similar practices that have obviously (with the reviews we have read) happened consistently to many other customers. Emerald Vanlines bears responsibility for this poor experience as they hired this other company without our knowledge to do the work we hired them to do. We are hoping for compensation of our enequitable loss and also for other potential customers to beware before they hire either Emerald Vanlines or Global Moving LLC for any of their moving needs.
