EcoCabins Reviews

David took our order and our 50% deposit for a tiny house in mid February of 2017, saying that our unit was already half built and that it could easily be delivered by April. April, May and June came and went, and yet the unit still hadn't arrived, though several delivery dates were set (problems always arose, and the delivery dates came and went). We finally asked for our deposit back. David texted that he would get it to us within 45 days. He then sold the unit for much more than we were going to pay for it (my wife and kids were friends with his wife and kids, so we were given a deal). That was in late summer, and we're still waiting to get our deposit back. David rarely answers his phone, and you can't leave a voicemail. Every now and then, he responds to texts. Several times, he's texted me that the money was in his bank, and that his bank would be calling me to wire it on this day... and then that day... and then yet another day. All those dates came and went. And now David has once again stopped responding to texts. We will keep pursuing this. Just as the other party is doing with a similar complaint over a similar time frame. He had me write the deposit check to Canyon Heights, which I didn't question at the time, since his wife and kids were family friends.

After meeting with EcoCabins at a trade show in Denver, I left my number and was called back by their sales manager, Paula Papen. I wanted a tiny house, and had a modest budget of my life savings, but I did need the house by June of 2016. I was told that I could get a new model at cost, because they wanted to use it for initial marketing. I said ok, if it gets done by June. I signed an agreement with EcoCabins in April 2016. Long story shorter, a very stressful 8 month later, in January, it was delivered (close by, there was snow). The amount I paid covered the house completely, and was about 3/4 of the cost to set, skirt, and add a $1500 washer/dryer. What I got was an incomplete house that needed deck railing, insulation, and all appliances except for a microwave. After waiting another 5 months and realizing that nobody was going to show up to complete, skirt, set, etc., I spent another $30k getting it properly finished and set.

I had to get a loan for this, as everything I had went towards the initial purchase. I asked both David Papen and Darin Zaruba if we could resolve. Darin said EcoCabins (his company)had nothing to do with the deal, because David Papen did the deal factory direct. David's Ecologic Modulars did build the house, but David worked for EcoCabins (he was listed on their website), and I was never informed that my deal was not with EcoCabins. David now claimed that he was no longer with EcoCabins, but said my deal was with them...but he was able to transfer the title over from them to his company, so he could give to me. But, I never did receive the title, or the final bill of sale. Just deflection that I got a great deal for that house. I feel like I was deceived for over a year...so many promises. I was even told to rent a hotel as I waited for my house, and that I would be reimbursed. But no reimbursement, and later told by the contruction crew that my house wasn't even started until after that. It's been crazy, and I am just trying to prevent anyone from the stress and financial difficulty that they have caused. I don't even know if either of their companies exist, at least under those names.

I wanted to write this review on the company I chose to build my first tiny house. Unfortunately the company I chose was Eco cabins who handed us over to Ecologic Modulars. I suppose they are tied together. This is a company that likes to change names, so please be aware of the real names.

I would like to let it be known that they have taken advantage of us and others. They have absolutely been failing to live up to their commitments and this might have all been prevented if I took the right precautions in getting a tiny house.

Although Eco Cabins might look amazing from their sites and advertising, they owe a lot of people money. Eco cabins has taken payment and delivered houses extremely late or unfinished. They have failed to reimburse people for repair costs and uphold the terms of the contracts. They've even failed to pay delivery drivers.

Eco Cabins and Ecologic Modulars claim they are RVIA certified, how ever that is not true.

After Eco Cabins claimed to have completed the frame of our home and taking another payment, they have been unable to provide any evidence that our home is even in the process of being built. Over the course of more than a month they have failed to take the time to call us and have an honest conversation despite our constant pleas as paying customers.

We've been promised pictures again and again, only when we asked what is going on is when we started getting very unproffesional feedback from them, bringing their personal life into what we paid for and giving excuse after excuse.

We have never received a single re-assurance from the CEO of Eco Cabins, Darin Zaruba, that we will ever receive what we paid for.

The Eco Cabins website has been modified to remove names and descriptions of the same person who is supposed to be building our home and once claimed to be the director of operation for Ecologic Modulars and a principal member of Eco Cabins, David Papen.

These business have also all vacated their original locations and gave faulty adresses on their website.

There's no way to tell where the lies end and the truth begins. With all that we know of these people and their habits, we can only assume that we will never get our money back or the house we paid for. But we have every intention of fighting them and holding them accountable for their actions.

I'll give a proper update on if things get better or worse, but I wanted to share this story now in order to help people who are looking to buy tiny homes to protect themselves.

It's quite a shame. We were planing on posting so many pictures of the Eco Cabin's home when we got it. We were going to make videos, share pictures, boast about how wonderful the product is, but now we're so sorry to be doing the complete oppistie.

Until Justice is served, my reviews of Eco Cabins and Ecologic Modulars will stay up.
