So we told these ladies our situation and told them we seen a few houses online we would like to look at and we drove to see them and 3 people were living in and we never looked inside, 2 were dilapidated and vacant with the doors kicked in on one . So we went to pit an offer in on the one we knew was habitable for a fact cause we talked to the tenant that was leaving.
I figured him warning me was just another missed a few payments disgruntled tenant thing. So we go to the office to try to get the ball rolling on this Thornfield, mo property. She quickly tells us that someone from Alaska sent his payment in on it just that morning. So we ask about the other 3 bed 1 bath with 5 acres and they proceed to tell us its livable it may need some paint and carpet the guy living there before us was in jail ,but its pad locked and she doesn't have a key.
She sits us down with the paperwork and we start to go through it and the entire time she cant sit still and is twitching. Then while we are signing this lease I asked again since we couldnt go inside this house is 100% livable and safe for our children. She assures me it's just cosmetic. So we drive back home and think we're finally getting our mini farm going again.
I had to work so it took us 4 days to be able to drive out to it and we do. When we show up the neighbors across the road greet us and proceed to tell us that we were in for a shock. The guy that lived there was in jail with 5 other friends for meth and kidnapping and killing a guy in the house. And the Guys brother and law and sister lived nextdoor that's who put the padlock on the door.
So we try get ahold of Clint the former tenants Brother in law to get the key we finally get the lock off and he says we've been in there pulling stuff out for 3 days since they leased it again. I felt my heart sink and my wife went into hysterics we open the door and the former tenant and his 5 friends possibly the brother in law after they gave word we had signed on it, but they tore everything out cabinets carpet and hardwood and drywall even cut the front bedroom subflooring and floor joists out.
Took the water heater and the wood stove out also . Mind you all that was left was a non working bathroom that even resembled a noticable room. I immediately take pictures and called the office to let them know we need our deposit back or taken to put towards another property. We locked up and headed straight to the office.
She tells us of one ready to move in the people had kids there and it's just in town but our contract is as is and deposit is nonrefundable. So we humor it and look at the other house and we get there the roof caved into the back bedroom and black mold all down the wall. I understand the as is but it's under the promise of habitable. Not crack den pull up some dirt and come eat dinner kids.
