I went to Easter Seals on February 12th, 2018 to see about getting transportation assistence. I was asked questions by someone there. Then we went on a very long walk (a long walk) around a few blocks from their offices to a bus stop. On the way I stopped about 15 -20 times to catch my breath. I am on oxygen 24/7 at 4-6 litres per minutes.
I have COPD. I was diagnosed with COPD in 2008 after having had congestive heart failure. I was placed on Social Security Disability in 2010. I see a pulmonologist every 3-6 months. I see a cardiologist every 6 months.
During this long trek to the bus stop I had a very bad time of it and at some times I came to a point where I knew I was in trouble with my breathing. It was a warm day and way above 32 degrees. We got on the bus and went one block then got off. I asked if we were any closer to their offices and I was told it was around the corner. I still had not recuperated from the long walk and was really having a hard time.
We got back to the Easter Seals offices and they took my photo and placed it on a card then told me that I would be contacted in 7 to 10 days. I called back about 2 weeks ago and was informed that it would take 7 to 21 days to get an asnwer back. I called today, March 23rd and was told that I could only use the transportation when it was under 32 degrees. My physicians would vehemently disagree with that and I will be informing them of the decision that Easter Seals made.
I will also be a proponent of dessiminating the experience I had with Easter Seals and how the operater at Easter Seals hung up on me after I told her that I would be contacting the newspapers and tv stations in Denver to let them know how "helpful" Easter Seals was to me. I had asked to speak to someone in management and was told that they weren't in the offices today because of being in meetings. To me "meetings" mean sitting around making bad decisions because "management' isn't out there seeing how things are running and doing the job of management which is NOT to sit around in meetings.
Talk is cheap and can draw a big salary for doing nothing. Easter Seals is a scam like most of the non-profits in this country. By the way, if Easter Seals is a non-profit then why doesn't their website address not contain "org" as opposed to the commercial and for profit ".com"?
