I purchased four Cook'n 11 programs for myself and my daughters. After I purchased the 11th version, the Cook'n 12 upgrade came out. I bought four of those also, so that my daughters and I could sync our recipes. The main reason I bought all of these was because of the ability to sync to our phones and ipads. My hard copy of Cook'n 12 says on the package that it includes the icloud...free. This was a selling point.
I used Master Cookbook for many years. IF I just wanted a recipe program to store and copy recipes, I would hadstayed with that one. We were told taht 11 and 12th upgrade included access to the cloud syncing our other devices.
Now the company wants to charge $9.95 monthly to keep this service. They claim that we will not have to pay for another upgrade...which is expensive, but in 6 months the $9.95 would be like paying for upgrade anyway, at least we would have a choice. I don't expect my daughters to have to pay a fee monthly for a gift I gave them.
I am very angry with this greedy company. We the buyers have been totally misled! The program was great with the abilities we purchased until they yanked then away.
I wouldn't buy a car only to have the engine removed! They deserve a lawsuit.
I have purchased and used Cookin' software since their beginning and have upgraded occasionally when feature in the upgrade were worthy of the cost. In the last 2 upgrades, customers were told that their purchase included access to the software's cloud syncing service across mobile devices which was a nice feature that I agreed to upgarde for. Now, the company has sent out an email stating that this feature will not be available to users anymore unless they pay $15 per month.
I believe that I am either owed a refund or an offer to be grandfathered in with an exemption to their new subscription service fee since they never stated that I would eventually have to pay to continue using their software's features and I was misled when I purchased the software.
This is regarding a recipe program. I bought their product when it was version 8. I have always upgraded. Their latest version - 12, allow(ed) you to install the app on 2 different PC's an unlimited number of smart phones and capture or import an unlimited number of recipes from the web.
You could add a recipe at one computer and it would automatically synchronize to the other computer and the smart phone apps.
On April 25th I received an email from Dan Oaks, founder, Presedent and CEO telling me that in ONE WEEK, I would have to pay $15.
00 a month to continue using their product as advertised. This afternoon, 4:32 PM Pacific Time, May 5th, 2016 I loaded the app and was told:
"To use Cook'n you must sign into a cookn cloud account or create one. If creating a new account, you should do it from the computer or device that has all of your recipes. Would you like to do this now?
My options are Yes and No. If I click no, the application closes. Completely!!!
I, who bought and paid for their program no longer get free support, but I see no where what the cost of support is!
They call it their "Premium" service. Whereas I WAS able to scan and download unlimited recipes, I am now limited to only 5 per day. Their smart phone app, advertised as FREE will no longer work because it can't synchronize.
Their "Terms and Conditions" say the have the right to change the pricing without notice. It does NOT say they can change the entire pricing structure such that the applicaiton is now crippled unless I give them more money for what I already paid for.
Their Terms and Conditions also say the cost will be $10.00 a month, not $15.
The following is a direct copy and paste from the email they sent me when asked for clarification.
"You can still use Cook'n to organize an unlimited number of your personal recipes. You can make menus and grocery shopping lists. You can analyze the nutritional value of any recipe. You can e-mail recipes to family and friends, print a family cookbook, and scale your recipes. You can type in what you have on hand and Cook'n will tell you what you can make for dinner, etc.
Non-subscribers can use Cook'n forever. But, they will not be able to sync unlimited data to the Cook'n Cloud."
What cost me $330.00 over 6 years would cost me $1080.00!!!
They claim they can no longer afford the storage space for the cloud. I have a web-site with unlimited storage space. That claim cannot ber JUSTIFIED!
DVO Enterprises Cook'n Is Officially a Greedy Company
I have purchased every new version throughout the years. I purchased this recipe program for my daughters a few years ago. One daughter never opened it and the other daughter sold hers on Ebay. It hurt my feelings that they didn't learn to love this product as much as I did. I thank God that they never used it because DVO due to their greed have changed their product to have a monthly charge to utilize their great feature of Cook'n Cloud. I will find another product to use in DVO's place. This seems to be the way of the world now-a-days. You can build your company and appear to be such a caring family with all your videos. But, at the end of the day, you as so many others in the world want to line your pockets. I will not stoop to your demands, I will go elsewhere !
