Do not frequent this used car lot if you do not want to be ripped off. Their business motto is to lie and cheat the customer as much as possible. Stereotypical used car salesmen. They knowingly sold my wife and 15-year-old daughter a car with cracked heads...which we found an hour after it was driven. When contacted a few days later, the co-owner Zack laughed in our faces..."we have to make money...think about it from our point of view". Here's the detailed transaction.

My wife and 15-year-old daughter went to Dumarks to look at a car. That car was not there, but Zack (the co-owner) found another car, a 2002 Nissan Altima, and ended up selling the car to them. He told them it was a "very good car" and when asked what needed to be fixed he replied, "nothing that I know of...it really is a great car". He lowered the price to $2999 (from $4500) and gave them a 50/50 limited warranty on the engine/transmission.

Before leaving, my wife and daughter were given a verbal agreement that Dumarks would service the car. They were told that an oil change would be done. They were told all fluids would be topped off (coolant, brake, transmission etc). My wife checked the oil at the lot on that day (8/1/2015) and it was very low. Zack told her the car would be serviced and it would take a week. We went back a week later (on a Saturday morning) to get the car. Since they had the car for a week, we assumed that the service was completed. We did not check the oil level. Zack came and dropped off the tire iron on that day and never mentioned that the service was not done. He allowed us to drive off. Well, no service to the engine was done.

We drove 43 miles back to Burnsville and then drove to Oakdale that night to show family the car. On the way to Oakdale, there was a smell and the "check engine" light came on. The next day we checked the fluid levels and found that the oil was 2.5 quarts low and the coolant container was totally empty. We bought oil and coolant for the car and filled each to the appropriate levels. The next time we drove the car there was white smoke coming from the back. We towed the car to a mechanic and he said the head gaskets were cracked/blown off and a major repair was needed to fix the engine.

I contacted Zack and told him about the situation. My daughter had saved for a year to pay for this car and I was disappointed that he sold this car to her without knowing more about it. He apologized and said he would work with us to resolve the problem. I called the next day, he did not return my call. I called the day after, he did not return my call. I called the day after that, he did not return my call. Finally, I texted Zack wondering what was happening with the car. His response was different.

He said the car was sold AS IS and that the warranty covers engine and transmission lubricated parts...he was not going to give us any money back. "They purchased the vehicle...they looked it over and liked it. I never promised them I was going to service the vehicle...that I was just going to clean it up and we did." He went on to say that they could "re-seal the heads" and that we would have to pay half of that. Otherwise, there was nothing he could do. My mechanic laughed at that saying that would not fix the problem. He also said that had the vehicle not been driven without oil it may not have blown the white smoke at all.

I believe it was just wrong for Zack to take advantage of selling a substandard car that was not fully inspected to my wife and daughter. He lied about the condition of the vehicle. He lied about it being serviced. As a consumer this is just not right. I understand the risks of buying a car this old and that legally we don't have much of a leg to stand on in terms of warranty etc...that we shouldn't have been so trusting. But is it ok to just blatantly lie to the consumer (who happened to be two Hispanic women) just to sell a car?

Attorney General and BBB was contacted...hopefully they will lose 10X the busness they got from cheating us.
