On February 2nd of this year I noticed that sewer water had come up into my basement laundry room. Because I have a baby in the house I was very alarmed and wanted someone to come as soon as possible...I contacted Drain Rescue to come and assess the situation. They said they could look at it right away.
Their representative did an inspection of the drain/sewer line and stated that it was clogged in the line in front of the house. I told them that we had experienced this problem before and that we had contacted Durham Region - our local government service, at the time and they had come and resolved the problem, at no cost to us. The representative insisted that the location of the clog was at a point in the sewer line that was the home-owner's responsibility and that the Region would not repair it.
The representative also told me that he would be ordering a new stack to be installed in the front of the house, leading down to the pipe. I told him he didn't need to because the Region had already installed a stack (inspection pipe) when they had fixed the problem the last time.
I agreed to having a hole dug in my lawn so that they could repair the pipe. They said that they found that the pipe was broken and dirt had fallen into it.
For this, they charged me a total of $4,407.00
I contacted the Region of Durham asking if they would absorb at least a part of the cost because their pipes leading from the house are eroding. They sent out a team who worked for several hours on the pipe and they said that the work that had been done by Drain Rescue had been entirely ineffective, as they had to remove a great deal more dirt and debris to free the pipe. They also stated that Drain Rescue should have advised me to contact the Region as the problem was at a point in the sewer pipe that was the Region's responsibility. They also refused to reimburse me because Drain Rescue had worked on the pipe.
In addition, the workers from Drain Rescue made a mess of my garden and took apart a section of a retaining wall in my garden. The workman said that it would be repaired in the spring. They never contacted me and when I emailed them on August 3rd, asking why the retaining wall hadn't been fixed, they said they don't repair landscaping that is damaged when they do work.
