I went to Dr McHenry for headaches (referred by my GP) and came out with a diagnosis for Pseudotomor Cerebri, otherwise known as Idiopathic Intracranial Hypertension. A condition in which there is too much spinal fluid pressure in the scull and it causes headaches and vision loss. I was subjected to numerous tests including a lumbar puncture. Visits started with 1/week for a month, then every other week for a couple months, then every 3 weeks, and finally once/month.

With each visit there were more new tests, but the reason and results were never explained. EVER. I wasn't even told my diagnosis! I only figured out what it was due to overhearing what he was saying to a nurse about me then googling it. I was never directly told what my condition was, prognosis, or timeframe for treatment. When I would ask questions, I would not be given a direct answer. Each time I asked what the results were, I was told by Dr McHenry, "the results were not what I had hoped to see, we will watch it closely", and that was IT.

The only thing I was told was that I had lost 2/3 of my optic nerve fibers and without treatment, I was at risk of losing the rest and going blind. When I pushed and said, what was that info based on, I was brushed off. At that point I had had enough. After being treated by Dr McHenry for 6 months I started to get extremely concerned about the validity of my condition, diagnosis, and treatment.

The medicine I was on left me feeling worse and worse, with headaches, visual issues, loss of quality of life. I started trying get test results from all (and I do mean all) the different tests I had undergone. I reached out to one of the nurse practitioners and got a bit more info than I was getting from McHenry. I was finally told that the only abnormal result of any of my tests was the lumbar puncture (spinal tap), which, according to my current neurologist and 3 other specialists was not abnormal, just slightly elevated and none of them would have treated me for any illness based on the lumbar pressure.

In the end, I realized they could not prove out that I had any condition at all. I saw 3 eye specialists who told me there was no damage to my eyes (McHenry said I had lost 2/3 of my nerve fibers and was in risk of blindness without aggressive treatment and monitoring). I had been given increasing amounts of medicine, heavy doses of Diamox. At one point I asked if I could have wine with the medication and I was prescribed a medicine for alcoholics to stop drinking! HA! What a joke. I weaned myself off Diamox and stopped taking all meds and magically I felt better than I had since I went to see him.

I went to a neurologist who is treating me for severe muscle tension on the left side of my back/neck/head and my headaches are totally gone. What a waste of time, money, and stress. DO NOT GO TO THIS DOCTOR. He is preying off the fears of those who seek care. Treats without explanation, and tests for no reason.
