After leasing my modem for Xfinity for $10.00 per month, I thought I could save money by buying a modem online. I found the web site : dontleaseyourmodem.com and found the exact make and model modem that I was leasing from Xfinity. On Xfinity's website, this modem is listed as compatible, so I paid the $174.39 for the Cisco model DPC3941T. It arrived soon after with instructions on how to get it working. I hooked it up and it worked great. I was getting the same speed as the rented modem and all was good with the world. Now it gets interesting: A few weeks later I received a notice from Xfinity that my internet speed was increasing for free! All I had to do was shut dowm my computer, shut down the modem, wait a bit, then turn it all on again, and presto, more speed. But, no way. Same speed. So I thought I was in a spot that wasn't covered for the extra speed and thought no more about it. Another few weeks pass, and I wanted to add another TV outlet. The Xfinity installer comes, installs the outlet and does a equipment check. He discovers that the modem I bought wasn't registered on my Xfinity account. It was working, but not at the new faster speeds. He told me to contact Xfinity's custmer service and find out why. I did, and Xfinity stated that this modem was a previously used leased modem in Florida, and they would not register to me because I did not purchase it new, and this modem may have been stolen or the previous owner didn not pay thier bill. To make a long story longer, the modem sold to be my dontleaseyourmodem.com was NOT new and because it was a previoulsy leased modem from Xfinity, they would NOT register it to my account and I can not get the speed I am paying for. DNLYM.com will not refund my money, saying that since it works, it is Xfinity's problem and mine. This company is selling used modems, stating that they are new. Since they are used, Xfinity will NOT register them and you will not get the speeds your paying for.

Extremely disappointed in this company!

Quite simply the modem I purchased did not function as I was led to believe. So I received return authorization from the company for credit.

I packaged the modem in the same box it was shipped in and placed the necessary RA information in the box and shipped it back.

Perhaps by me not putting the RA number on the box might have caused a glitch, regardless the return was complete and exclusive.

After several weeks they insist they did not receive the partial and refused credit without proof of shipment.

My error, I did not save the Postal tracking receipt. This would be the first time in 40 years that the USPS has failed to deliver one of my packages.

If this is a common practice of “Dontleaseyourmodem” it could be quite lucrative.

Just a word of advise, steer clear from their deceptive practices.

Same thing happened

The exact same thing happened to me - agree I should have saved tracking number - this is their common practice...don't buy from this place unless you are sure it will work and for sure save your receipt with the tracking number because I am positive they will say they did not receive your return.

I thought I had found the best deal on the modem that Comcast recommended.

It turned out I had bought (what they call) a "Bulk, out-of-box" modem. This fact was was listed at the tail end of a very long product description and not up-front where one would expect to see it. Product arrived with no manual, no instructions, no invoice (and of course, no box).

Of course there were issues. After much ado, I learned that I had bought an item that had been out of warranty for almost a year and a half (in other words was at least 3 and a half years old) and that the manufacturer would not re-activate the warraty because don'tleaseyourmodem.com is not a valid reseller.

My modem had obviosly been used before -- because someone had changed the network name and the password provided on the sticker is listed as a pre-shared key (whatever that means).

I had a lot of problems getting it to work, and the "customer service" (by email only) although prompt, was pretty nasty.

Bottom line. The savings is NOT worth the headache. Do yourself a favor and buy from a legit company.

Same thing happened here. Stolen modem?

Purchased this modem to save money, Comcast/ Xfinity, who is also a bummer company to work with, could not identify the serial number, and suggested it was a stolen unit. Return policy is, "you have to figure out if you can squeak by, if not, tough." They get an "F" with the BBB, they are lit up on the other review sites as well. Basically, I blew it by not looking into that first. Plan to file a complaint with my credit card company next.

I have purchased a modem through stores.dontleaseyourmodem.com on 02-07-15 as a back up system for home incase my leased system went down.

As of yesterday 01/27/16 my leased item has been acting up and I decided to use the purchased item I bought. So I called Comcast / Infinity to help me activate my purchased device. As we where processing the activation and gave Comcast/Infinity the product CM Mac serial number the item was showing in there system as lost/stolen that I need to go to the nearest store and show them wheere I purchased my equipment. So today 01/28/16 I went to local store and returned my lease modem and showed them the purchased modem I bought with a valid receipt. Customer care Joseph B stated that I need to return and get my money back because they will not honor the unit due to the status.

They sent me a used modem and then had the worst customer service I've ever experienced.

I bought a router from this company. What arrived was a beat-up router (I'm not kidding, what did they do, throw it against the wall repeatedly?) with no instructions, no literature from the company, in an old box. I contacted them via email telling them I was sent the wrong product and asking for them to ship the new one I ordered. They told me, "...you knew you were buying a refurbished...." Nope, the ad I bought from nowhere says that's it's used. After three back and forth emails, I decided to call it a learning experience. They are the nastiest customer service I have ever experienced. They're not a respectable business and that's why I'm leaving this review. I'm out the money I sent them because they refused to send me a new modem. They operate the websites dontleaseyourmodem.com and buyyourownmodem.com. They probably have other domains they open up because of the terrible reviews.

Ripoff Company

I purchased a modem through don'tleaseyourmodem.com, and it was a terrible experience. I feel like an idiot for not reading reviews about this company before doing business with them. I should have know it wasn't a new modem because of the way it was packed and because it was not in a box from the manufacturer. Of course the Xfinity tech could not get it to work, so I notified the company. The response was a "scolding" for not following their instructions included in the package. I told them I wanted to return the item, which I did. Fortunately, I kept my tracking receipt so I had a record of when and where it was delivered. After many emails to the company in which they asked for the same information numerous times, I did receive an refund, but they charged me a 30% restocking fee, which was NEVER mentioned in the sales agreement. Woe be to anyone who buys from them and thinks they can get a full refund. This company also uses ownyourmodem.com and buyyourownmodem.com as company names, so don't be fooled. A fraudulent company by any other name....

Same thing happened

I had the same thing happen - Comcast said to buy this modem - I did - it did not work. So I returned the product - and shame on me for not saving the receipt for tracking...but they said they never received the package. this is apparently their standard practice and now I am out the money paid plus the shipping cost.

A word of advice if you make a bad decision to buy from this company make sure to save your receipt for tracking because they will say you did not receive the package.

Bad Experience with DontLeaseModem.com

The modem that I received from DontLeaseYourModem.com on 04.14.2016 was a different model - Arris822. I paid for TG862 model.Besides, the modem was not new as was promised during the check out. I had to return the wrong modem spending half a day printing out the return label at the library, and visiting the post office which is 5 miles away from my home. In another week I received the correct modem. Something was rattling inside, as if some part went loose. Also the two rubber pieces on which the modem rests were missing. I asked Customer Service to compensate me for inconvenience and was denied. But when a customer cancels the order they charge $10. I also asked them to clarify how the battery works and they replied that I should bother to read the instructions. I will never deal with them again.
