They will quote you a low price and then come out and pick up your furniture only to charge you a much higher price. Our first quote was for $1200 to $1600 for our move. That was to pick up our stuff and store it for two days on their trucks and re-deliver it. Estimate was for 6 guys and two trucks for 10 hours. We packed everything ourselves and required no additional packing or materials except for blankets for the TV and furniture which we told them about. They called the morning of our move and told us they needed to cancel!? We were so shocked and distraught because we were selling our house and needed to get out. Luckily we booked a day earlier than we needed so we begged them to come out and move half our stuff out. They told us we would need to store our stuff ourselves so we rented a storage facility (at our expense).
When they finally showed up they came with 3 guys instead of 6 and one truck instead of two. They promised they would come the next day at 7:00 with 6 guys and two trucks and get us out before noon. That was our deadline to be out. The next day at 8:30 they showed up with 4 guys and one truck. I was really freaked out. They said there was no way they could have us out by noon and said they didn't have enough trucks to bring two and 2 guys didn't show up. I went and rented a 30' truck (our expense) to get us out in time. Keep in mind now we are also getting calls from our lawyer and the title company is refusing to release the funds we needed to close until we were out. It got so bad we moved most of our own stuff out in order to meet the deadline while the new owners watched us waiting for us to be out so they could call their lawyer and tell him to release the funds. Now for the charge details.
Original estimate $1200-$1500
First day charge $1200
Second Day Charge $1800
Final Day Charge $2200
Truck Rental $180
Storage Unit $300
Total charges $5680
They get you over a barrel because they have your stuff so they can charge you whatever they want once they start picking up your stuff. The head mover was friendly and told me this is how they operate. He told me the owner is never around and that they don't pay their workers so people don't show up. He said everyone is very disgruntled and hate working there. He said the owner is always in Israel and the guy running the company is completely incompetent. He expects the company to go out of business within the year. Based on our experience we would agree. Weeks later we are still finding broken items and items are missing. One of the movers was cutting plastic off my chair with a box cutter and sliced right through the fabric on a family heirloom. They said we'd be reimbursed. I'm not holding my breath.
I'm sure your wondering why we just didn't call another company. We tried but movers are booked weeks in advance and we were moving at the end of the month which is their busiest time.
