Purchased an 2003 International water truck, was promised by Chuck Baskin that it was in fine shape and ready for the road. After paying the company 30,000.00 dollars, I recieved the truch which was not even close to being DOT ready.....The brakes onm the rear axels were all shot!, The rear end was not even close to being inspectable and road worthy. I needed to weld on an entire rear section to mount lights and plate,, the PTO leaked , The truck costs much more to get legal than I was told which was that it was ready for the road!!!,,according to Chuck Baskin!
This company is most definetly fraudulant, and If you read the reviews I am not alone as the majotiry of reviews are extremely poor.....
I picked a truck I wanted to buy. (Thursday) I had my own financing. The salesman and I made arrangements for payment. He spoke with my bank also. It was a done deal. The check would be overnighted the next day. I drove 9 hours back home and went to the bank to fill out paperwork so the check could be mailed. (Friday) The check was sent as agreed. The salesman then sold the truck Friday to someone else. He then received my check at approximately 8:30 a.m. Saturday morning. He never called me. I called today, Tuesday afternoon to make arrangements to get the truck. I was making arrangements for insurance also. The salesman "then" said he sold the truck. He wanted to keep the check and have me drive 9 hours out there to pick out another truck. I told him to send the check back. To me that's fraud. We had an agreement and he told the bank to send the check! Then it seems like bate and switch because he wanted to keep my check. That's all just wrong. Bad business
Purchase a 2014 freightliner and refrigerated reefer. Within 3weeks the truck broke down. They wouldn't return my phone calls, was rude when I did speak with them. I called and informed the once very nice salesman who now became extremely abnoctious that I was recording the calls. He was so busy trying to insult me he didn't adhere to the notice, then proceeded to lie that he was the owner, I can't speak with anyone above him. He told me I bought it with no warranty so it's not their problem. "Too bad that it broke after 3weeks, But that's a chance you took!" I asked for the owner, they hung up on me several times before one man came on and identified himself as the owner. When asked about the promise for one of their mechanics to check out the truck if I towed it there, he now claims, they don't have mechanics, don't do any repairs at any of their locations. Can't help. Lies! Lies! Lies! I was at their location when purchasing the truck and they do have mechanics there.
The first red flag I noticed when I purchased the truck they took the pic off live and they cut the pentile hitch and air hoses. Salesman goaded me by saying how good it was and many people were coming to look at it. I wired the money, $38,500. I paid their $1,000.00 to have it delivered to Peoria. Which took 10 extra days they said. Finally, it gets here at 7pm, Wednesday at dark. The truck would not start. Noticed both windows were down and was raining. There were no window regulators, all were broken. I charged the batteries for 1 hour. No start, installed new batteries. The truck would turn over but not start. Called salesman- he said to put ½ can of starting fluid in it. It finally started. Drove off trailer and would not restart. Next day started with starting fluid to take to dealer. Max speed it would go was approx. 17 MPH and at the speed I could not keep on road because front end parts. Missing front hub cap pn front wheel, no il, 1 rim rusted. No way it would pass DOT.
Did not tell me it had 12,500 hours and needed overhauled. Said it had 48,000 original miles. Total misrepresentation.
Found many other issues that would make impossible to pass DOT inspections. Delivery driver said they had it running when he picked it up as all Baskins trucks are when they are picked up and none of them restart. All need new batteries when delivered are worn out. Approximately 2.5 miles down road it stalled while pulling away from a stop light. Stalled in intersection. Had to call tow truck and take to IH dealer where the truck got checked over and here are the results. I feel this dealer should refund my money. He knowingly sold a bad truck. Took IH one month to diagnose the problems ad costs $760.00.
The engine was blown-up. Both rear-ends were bad and found out it was specked-out for a coal mine. The truck would not go overr 30 MPH. Also had incorrect radiator that did not have a transmission cooler in it. Air conditioning did not work as the salesman said it would. Wiring is a mess around the whole truck. All wheel seals leak and no brakes at all. Truck in very poor condition.
Beware all drivers Don Baskins truck sales Covington Tennessee I purchased a kw-w900 from Don Baskins showing 599k I made it from Memphis Tennessee to Birmingham Alabama the truck started pouring smoke and running hot I made it back to Memphis to freightliner they said I had a blown head gasket and that the truck had 929k on it. I took it back to Baskin he would not repair the truck but gave me a used head for the truck. Therefore I had to pay freightliner in Memphis $3300 to install the head after approximately 15000 miles the engine failed overall I lost over $20000 on the truck and repairs. I almost ended up loosing my home because I had second mortgaged my home to buy the truck. Since I lived in Covington Tennessee and I had no truck I ended up going to work for Baskins truck sales for a short period of time but after personally seeing what he did to all customers I could not stay there as an employee. The lies and ripoffs were to.much for my conscience yes you can find cheap.trucks at Baskins but they have been totaled out wrecks, worn out drive lines, or the odometers have been rolled back several hundred thousand miles. PLEASE SPEND A LITTLE MORE MONEY AND BUY A GOOD SAFE TRUCK
In Febuary 2015, we purchase a 99 Freightliner from Don Baskin. The truck lasted a month before having to spend $1800 to repair axle drum. This was after spending over $1400 for AC and door repairs. The truck ran for another month before spending $1200 in repairs for radiator and etc. After three months of running, the truck finally put the driver down in the middle of no where with massive engine repair to improve the low oil pressure costing over $4000. Stay away BUYER Beware!!!!!
