Doctor Auto Reviews

  • Sep 5, 2017

My son had some severed wires in his 2005 Nissan Sentra, causing the vehicle to stop running. Approximately 3 weeks ago, he had it towed to Doctor Auto on W. Ann Rd in Las Vegas for diagnosis and repair. This company advertises a 100% satisfaction guarantee. After several days with no phone calls from the shop, my son was finally able to get an update. The repair technician informed him that a full diagnostic was performed and the problem was a faulty fuel pump and battery. Although the car presented with several cut wires and neither the turn signals nor the fuel gauge was functioning, the technician claimed the problem was not electrical/faulty wiring. He stated that the type of fuel pump needed was expensive and repair would cost $1145. When my son told him the most he could come up with was $800, the technician claimed to have found a cheaper unit that would "miraculously" bring the cost down to just under $800. No proof was ever provided to my son that the battery and fuel pump were actually faulty, or that the parts were ever purchased and installed.

My son did not have the funds available, so I transferred $800 to his account and he paid for the work in in cash. When the technician said the car had been repaired, my son picked up the vehicle, drove it twice (less than 10 miles total), then the car broke down while he was driving on the freeway. The car was running one minute, then completely shut off and would not turn back on the next. The tow truck driver said he wasn't sure what the problem was, but guessed it could be the alternator. Rather than honoring their 100% satisfaction guarantee, Doctor Auto didn't pay the cost of towing the car back to their shop. They did not offer a refund of any kind, nor did they acknowledge the fact that their "repairs" didn't fix the problem. Since the car was not running and he couldn't easily get it to another mechanic, my son felt like he had no choice but to allow them to repair it (and dispute the previous charges later). This time, they claimed to have performed a "task diagnostic" costing $100 and low and behold...the problem was in fact, the alternator! They did nothing to address the fact that they had just charged us $800 to fix something that wasn't the problem...although they still advertised that 100% satisfaction guarantee! This time, they billed my son $509 for the alternator repair, which my husband charged to our American Express card.

My son picked up the car on Thursday, 8/31/17 and on his way home, the car completely died in the exact same way/wouldn't start back up. After several attempts, he was not able to get the car to start, so he had it towed to his apartment. The technician at Doctor Auto initially advised my son to tow it back at his own expense so they could "take a look at it." When my son told them they should be responsible for the tow & all needed repairs, the technician said they would pay for the tow/repairs "if they found that the break down was caused by something they did." And I'm sure they'd be honest about that!!!

Obviously, we are not taking the car back to this repair shop because they are total crooks. When the car broke down the first time, my son was on his way to work after a month long medical leave of absence. This fiasco caused him to be 2 1/2 hours late for work and the jerks at Doctor Auto didn't care one bit. Throughout this situation, they have been dismissive & totally unapologetic-never once showing empathy for the hardship and expense their failures have caused. Each time, they had the car for at least a week and never called my son with updates. He had to hound them just to find out what was going on with his car.

To date, I have paid this auto repair shop over $1300 yet the car is in the exact same condition as when it was towed to them initially. I emailed several days ago with formal complaint and demand for refund. Although I received confirmation that the email was received, I have received NO RESPONSE from this company. They haven't even had the decency to reach out and attempt to explain themselves. To be clear, we want a full refund for the fuel pump and alternator parts and labor. We're willing to eat the cost for the tow fees, the bogus task diagnostic and battery (as long as it's actually a new battery). We're currently in the process of disputing the alternator repair charges with our credit card company. We also plain on filing complaints with various watchdog agencies, as filing a small claims lawsuit for the $800 fuel pump charge.

Upon further research, we have found that they have lost a lawsuit for ripping another customer off and have an "F" rating on the BBB for similar practices.
