I hired a contractor to build a custom furniture piece in late April. We corresponded via email for several weeks, I provided examples, a sketch, and measurements. On April 30 he came to my home to take photos of the desk the new piece was supposed to match, and I paid him in full for the project for which he said he would buy materials the next day. I have checked in with him every 2 weeks since April 30 looking for a status update, and I received excuses and stalling. I never received any photos of the progress of the build as promised, either. The last message I sent was on July 12. He has yet to respond as of today, July 26. I believe he is a theif, and a scammer, and several people have hired him for jobs that he has no intent to complete. Yelp, Houzz, and the BBB of Austin all have complaints or reviews of him doing this repeatedly on everything from furniture to full-scale patio jobs. He needs to be arrested. I have sent a 10 day demand letter requesting a money order refund of what i paid or delivery of the furniture piece within 10 days. When I don't receive a response, I will proceed with filing charges with the District Attorney for theft under the Texas Deceptive Practices Consumer Protection Act. But someone really needs to get this guy. I've counted 8 or 10 others across the various platforms he's defrauded of money on construction projects.
