We found an ad on Craigslist for a beautiful reclaimed barnwood dining table for $750. The guy we talked to via email was the owner of Dixon Wood Co. And his name is Jonathan Dixon. He says he custom made the tables so we ordered a larger size with matching bench. We received an invoice for $1200 and $600 was required up front. We mailed the check to the specified address in Fort Gratiot, MI. All communication was done via email.
I kept in touch with the gentleman about once a week. The table was suppose to be delivered 8/22 or before. The Monday before it was suppose to be delivered I contacted him and he stated delivery wouldn't be an issue and to tell him what day. I gave him a choice of 3 days and didn't hear back. I emailed hi again a couple days before we needed it and then the day before. I received and email late that night stating his grandmother died and he would be in touch the next day. I emailed him daily for a week with no response.
Finally we drove an hour and a half to the address we mailed the money and it was his parents address. We talked to his mom and she called him at which point t he told her he would call her back and hung up. We waited and he never called so she tried calling him back twice and he wouldn't pick up. I mentioned the death in the family to the mother and she had no response. She gave us their dining room table to try to compensate us, but it's 8 years old and has a lot of dings. I emailed him asking g him to come exchange it for the table we bought and matching bench and we would pay the additional $1200. We have yet to hear back. It's been almost a week since we went to his parents and two weeks since he was suppose to deliver it. Per his mother he has a studio in Royal Oak, but that's all she told us.
Facebook revealed he was out drinking with friends a night or two after he told us his grandmother died so it appears that was not true. He removed the Craigslist ad, but set up an etsy acct under the same company name with a picture of the same table, but now the cost is $1200!
We paid for a brand new 7 ft table with 3 coats of polyurethane and a matching bench and got a 8 year old 6 ft table foot of dings, no polyurethane and no bench and that was only because of his parents conscience. Otherwise we would have nothing for our $600.
We would love to know what happened or a way to find him in Royal Oak. Noone should buy from him as he appears to be a scammer.
