District 63 Toastmasters Reviews

  • Jun 3, 2021

I joined Toastmasters because I was told it was open to everyone and anyone could be a part of it. They talk up the "worldwide" aspect of is but in reality at the local level it is a load of bullsh*t. I am not getting my money's worth as a member and while not renewing my membership, I am also going to tell you why I am not and why this is a d**n scam because of the bigots who are your typical members in Tennessee. I am guessing they spend equal time in their Klan Klaverns or cross lightings as they do pretending "public speakers."

The district in Nashville, number 63, has enough issues with sometimes being held back by older white members who do not want to use Pathways (ew, computers) or who are just trying to reduce the amount of non-white members who want to join clubs. As more people from around the world move to the area and find out about TM, more of them are seeking to join only to have their names butchered during meetings when introduced or have their participation reduced over other whiter, lighter members. It is not an issue in every club but in some clubs it almost seems like an insidious trend.

Well, then there was the so-called "contested election" they had. Three people ran for club growth director this year. Two white guys and one black gentleman. Only two of the candidates were recommended for the job, the younger of the white guys and the black man. The older white guy was not really qualified but won over the other two candidates anyway. A likely reason for this is because the incumbent club growth director nominated the older white guy for her job right in the middle of the district business session. NOBODY in district leadership was to show any partiality towards any candidate. I am wondering if any person in leadership with a shred of integrity would ever have witnessed rules violated over an election held during a district conference, only to see the results allowed to stand??? I voted for the black guy and I think he should have won but probably never will because of issues like this; it was almost like they made sure he wouldn't win by any means necessary.

The older white guy that did win does look a little bit like a confederate general with the beard. Maybe that is why he won with more than 50% of the vote. I guess the south did rise again after all only this time they will fight with words instead of bullets.
