Disney Cruise Line Reviews
We put down a deposit on a cruise back on April 11th of 2011 of $434.00. It was to celebrate my husband retiring from the US Navy, after the two wars in Aghanistan and Iraq. I had been in touch with member services, regarding buying decor for a military (or even ANY) retirement - which they had zero appropriate swag for, unfortunately.
During the interim, my husband was wounded during his military service to our nation. Our family swung into supporting him, with a multitude of hospital visits, physical therapy appointments, specialists, procedures, etc. He is now a 90% disabled veteran.
Meanwhile, of course, the clock was clicking down as we took care of our precious veteran. He was able to retire honorably as we continued to take care of him.
Disney cancelled our reservation, as we were financially incapable of paying off the cruise, given the very expensive treatments and care he required. And they kept the $434.00 as a "fee".
I have been communicating with Disney Cruises, trying to convince them that the honorable thing to do is transfer our deposit to another cruise now that my husband is able to walk around on a cruise deck without crutches or walking aids.
And unfortunately, Disney has been completely unwilling to work with us whatsoever, as they would rather just keep the $434 from the family of a disabled veteran as a cash grab.
While they may indeed be in the legal rights to do so (which is a horrific policy, fwiw), morally this is a horrific policy. Never in a million years did I ever dream that Disney would not just bank the funds for a future cruise for people. Why on earth would a company the size of Disney need to do this?
