DO NOT USE THESE MOVERS!

Miami Discount Movers, aka ABA Movers or Angel Movers moved my things back in July of 2015. I cannot begin to describe how horrible the experience was and has been for the last 3 months. They seem like a legit operation, but I assure you, it is all a sham.

I’m going to do my best to describe the experience as impartially as possible without embellishing the facts. They are bad enough on their own; they don’t need to be exaggerated.

The experience started with their advertised free quote which by the end of the move turned out to be nearly double what they quoted. Three guys and a moving van showed up and got started right away. The first few hours went fine. We had five other people, friends and family, helping with the move, so I thought surely we would be under the quote.

At lunch time, someone ran to Subway to get the crew lunch. One guy said he wasn’t hungry and chose to hang out in the van. As I was carrying boxes out to the van, I smelled marijuana. In disbelief I walked to the side of the van and saw him smoking a joint in the cabin. Really? You can’t wait until the job was done? I talked to my wife about what to do, and we decided that we didn’t have the option of sending them home because we had to turn over the keys to our house the next day. We chose instead to monitor him and not let him carry anything too fragile.

As we continued the move, it became apparent that these guys were not experienced movers. They did little to protect the house we were moving from and the house we were moving to. I had to spend that night patching holes in the walls and painting hand rails. One of the guys was pretty competent at fitting everything in the van, but their disregard for how items were thrown into spaces and turned on their side (when they shouldn’t have been) made me concerned about the damage I would find when I unpacked. Indeed, when we check our things the next day we found:

A giant hole punched into our dresser (it is my wife’s great grandfather’s)

Broken china (it was my wife’s grandmother’s)

A hole in our couch

A broken leg on our piano

Other small things we could live without

As they were backing the van into the driveway of the new house, I had to override the guy telling the driver where to turn. He was within 3 feet of hitting our mailbox. If I hadn’t intervened, we wouldn’t have had no place to accept our mail.

The two most egregious actions involved our couch and piano. As they were bringing the couch into the living room, they went in through the back by the pool. I could tell that they were struggling with it, so I rushed to help just before they dropped it into the pool. I wish I were joking. I’m sure they were getting tired, but if I hadn’t helped catch it, we would have had a giant pool toy.

The piano was the last thing they attempted to move. They were treating it like a piece of furniture and not an instrument. They advertise piano moving, but let me tell you, they are NOT piano movers. I had to make the suggestion to use a dolly because they were trying to dead-lift it. When they were bringing it into the house, they tried to dead-lift it over a step, and that’s when one of the legs bent 45-degrees and cracked almost off. They suggested some wood glue, and we asked them to leave. We decided to finish the move on our own. We asked them to just get everything off the van, and we’d take it from there.

When they tallied the bill, we found out that we were going to be charged an insane fee for all of the packing materials. I don’t want to misrepresent it, but it was something like $3 per roll of tape, half of which went unused. We had a lot of packing materials left over that we had to pay for.

On the back of the bill was their insurance policy. We documented the damages and called the owner Boris. It has now been 2 months of promises to file a claim. I have had to call Boris from 3 different phones just to get him to answer. I’ve run out of phones, and he is not getting back to us. All-in, the damages cost more than the move itself (not counting the sentimental value).

I have moved half a dozen times, and I could never have dreamed it could be this bad. If you are making a decision to move, DO NOT listen to the other reviews. I find it hard to believe that half of them are real.

Good luck with your move. Hopefully this review will help you avoid the mistake we made in hiring them.
