First there was a box at a mall that said you could win a prize, free furniture, fill out info and then I received a phone call stating I won but that I had to go to their building and would receive a special key and if it unlocked the box, I could win several different prizes.I had to come on certain date, so on that date I went with a significant other at that time with my special key. But, upon arrival I was told that we would have to set through a special program where someone talked and showed a video saying if we pay so much money we will have access to purchase furniture etc at factory cost before any store would sell it.We sat through at least two hours of non stop brainwashing that we needed to pay over several years and by the end we would be paying $10,000 dollars but would have access to look through catalogs only they possessed to get furniture etc for a low price. Then, afterwards we had to sit down with separate representatives and they would get all of the financial stuff set up, but another hour went by with more brainwashing and still had to wait till they were finished and conned us into writing them a check for $200.00 or more...an then we were allowed to try the special key. Finally, I gave in after the harrassing and brainwashing and I wote thd check out, signed a contract that wasn't explained, I was young and dumb plus the non stop brainwashing, I just wanted the prize I was promised...I ended up not having that special key that would give me a lot of furniture (it didn't exist) and I was told my key unlocked a tennis bracelet with crystals..and after I left I realized what they talked me into and cancelled the check.I told them I wanted out of the contract because I found out they were scamming people out of thousands of dollars, I was told I wasn't allowed to cancel the contract and owed them $10,000, What!? No way, I was within the three days to legally cancel the contract yet they argued with me for several days after.I told them I was turning them in..and then I was told if I came back, returned the bracelet, and give them $100.00 in cash, they would cancel the contract.I did that and they said I wasn't allowed to bash their organization,(scam) but they need to be stopped. This happened to me at a young age so I didn't know what to do.I just wanted out and they scared me.I wish I knew what I now know.
We booked a hotel in Virginia Beach, VA through Direct Buy Travel. The rate was good and the VP reviews through the link on their site seem good. As the time came for our vacation we checked other reviews and discovered the place was not what we expected to get through Direct Buy, and our money was non-refundable. We filed a complaint with direct buy and call them numerous times over the course of about nine or 10 days. We also posted on media how frustrated we were with the inability of the company to refund our money. We are platinum members of direct buy and expected better service. In the end we are pleased to say that direct buy contacted us and refunded our full amount of money for this substandard hotel, even though it wasn't their responsibility For their standard policy. For us they went the extra mile and we are very grateful for that.
This company has been around for a long time, they just decided to get into the travel thing. They offered us a couple free trips if we signed up for there travel thing. They stated you could get deals at resorts for $49.00 a week and so on. We paid almost $4000.00 for a 3 year membership. Well, the free cruise, after port charges and other costs, we could get a better deal on Travelocity then the free cruise? The $49.00 deals come up once a week and there is only a few, which seem to be gone in a matter of seconds? I told them I wanted my money back, the stated I had 3 days after signing the contract to cancel. Of course it took weeks to be able to log into the web site and find out the true information. I would warn anyone thinking of joining this travel club to give it a second thought.......it's a big ripoff
Booked a vacation for the family that we have all been looking forward too through Direct Buy Travel. I dont have alot of extra money so I used a travel certificate from a friend (paid him cash) and booked a trip to Mexico.
I paid for an upgraded room that is suppose to sleep 4 adults and 2 childeren. I originally only had Me, Wife, 19 year old son and 12 year old son for a total of 4. called and asked if I could add one more adult (sons girlfriend) and they told me no problem children are free. Gave about a week and called back because hadnt received a new confirmation but was told everythig was fine. At that point I bought all airplane tickets for 4 adults and a child and prepared to enjoy are vacation in 90 days.
I get a call from Direct Buy 45 days before to confirm my reservation and they tell me the were confriming for four people, I informed them of my conversation with a one of there customer service reps and they told me he had told me wrong. The room will only hold 4, cell phone signal is broken up so says he will need to call me back in 15 min. that never happen so I called direct buy back, this person tells me yep your good hold 4 adults and 2 children. I call again the next day to get a new confrimation because I am not going 2500 miles to mexico without a confirmation especially with children. I am told this time that I can only have 4 with children and adults.
By now Im going crazy so I call the hotel only to be told they can not tell me anything because I booked through Direct Buy. Moral of the story I did cancel and had to rebook a last minute vacation through Apple Vacations (which I will now recommend) because I already had purchased 2000 worth of airplane tickets for a vacation I was told was good, Direct buy kept my 250 upgrade and the travel certificate (that i paid cash for) because they have no idea on the accomdations they provide.
I would never recommend or offer Direct Buy to anybody, It is a complete joke and customer service is the most frustrating conversation I have ever had. I see no resolution to this matter without refunding my 250 and certificate for a family vacation you ruined, after telling me everything was just find (Atleast 3 of the 5 customer service reps did)
We have been members of Direct Buy for many years. Rarely have we used the services, but when we did, we found that we saved a tremendous amount of money. A little more than 12 months ago, we were approached to look into their new Travel options and services.
We attended an event at the Gaylord Texan and the offers made seemed "too good to be true", so we declined to upgrade our membership at that time. The offers were "points", "free cruise for two" and "free resort stays", based upon availability, on at any of their resorts, or any cruise line or fleet. Several weeks later, we started receiving phone calls about this same opportunity. After much back and forth, over the phone, with the sales associate, I started asking very specific questions.
The associate continued to tell me over and over again, that by upgrading our membership at just over $2500, we would receive a 7 night cruise, on any cruise line, for two, and a 7 night resort stay, or, two 7 night resort stays. The choice was ours.
My husband is an avid cruiser so I had an idea of the cost of cruising and thought we'd get pretty close to breaking even at $2500 if we chose a cruise and a resort stay. With our longstanding membership satisfaction to guide me, I agreed, and paid the money over the phone. Everything changed once I tried to book the cruise.
During the "sale mode" the associate, continued to say "Any cruise line, 7 nights, for two people". I tried to book a 7 night Alaskan cruise and was told it was not good on that particular line because it is considered a luxury line. Just today, I tried to book on another line for a cruise to the Bahamas. Nope, not good on this line either.
"Any cruise line" means exactly that to me. At the time of purchase, the rep even went as far to say that a Viking River cruise would be acceptable. Never was it mentioned that there are excluded resorts or excluded cruise lines.
In addition, the sales reps go into an overload of information on air travel discounts. I have not attempted to use this yet, I'm holding my breath because again, at the time, it did seem "too good to be true", all the other promises were.
