So we did our research we shopped all the builders and Design Tech was in our top three. After going back-and-forth we were convinced by David Ellison at design tech homes to put down earnest money. Before we put down money we had a contract in place that had pricing and estimates. The contract stated that if the price were to change by more than 10% on any particular item either party could back out with no penalty. In the contract there were many options including driveway, septic, well, and foundation with prices listed for these items. We had gone back-and-forth for many months while doing this we had some land that was also supposed to be part of the same loan as the contract for the home. After design tech almost lost us our lot we decided to go ahead and purchase the lot outside of design techs help. Design Tech was refusing to work with our lender and sign their agreement forms for the construction loan. Bottom line is design Tech wanted us to use one of their lenders. After having several meetings at the office with David and their design team everything seem to still be on track. However we then got a call David stating that the price of the driveway had gone up from 12,000 to over 50,000. We went to his office to have a meeting again about the price. On a sidenote all these meetings that we had to make at their office in San Antonio where an hour and a half from our home and not the most convenient but we decided it was best for our family because we were building our dream home. We then got an email stating David no longer work for the company and that we needed to start over with someone new. At this point we had a bad taste in our mouth and wanted out of the deal. Design Tech refuse to give us any of our money back and stated they had no record of anything. Guess this is what happens when you trust sales person and he leaves. The company has refused to acknowledge any fault of theirs and has no record of any dealings with me or my family. However they did cash or checks and keep our money. We now own the lot it's been about two years we still have no home on the lot and no contact from the builder. Please be weary of dealing with this builder they are just out to take your money not build your home . They have the company's best interest not the clients. Hope this helps you when you were considering looking at builders.
