After Derek and friend replaced my timing belt, my engine sounds differently and hesitates when accelerating or going up hill. He promised me that if the engine was doing the same thing the next day, he's put in spark plugs for free.
He said it was normal for the engine to sound like that at first and that driving it for awhile would blow away whatever smoke or grime was there. The next day it was still idling poorly and the accelerator issue was a problem. He didn't answer my text that day.
The next day I called him and he said he'd be there in an hour. He never showed. I called him in the afternoon and he said he'd be there in five or ten minutes. He kept this up for 3 days. I finally questioned him and he sent me a scathing text saying he'd contact the police if I tried to contact HIM again. He also said I had caused all the issues with my engine because it was low on oil. So much for a 90 day guarantee.
He was paid 650$ for two hours work and as far as I'm concerned didn't finish the job and lied about replacing the spark plugs. To promise a customer six times you'd be at their place of work to finish the job and just not show up is unprofessional and inconsiderate if not downright childish. Meanwhile I will have to take my car to another mechanic to fix the damage that appeared after he interfered with my engine. At least I will be able to vet them first.
I would tell anyone in a desperate situation with a car that if it's down to this mechanic or walking, get your hiking shoes on. Thanks for this venue.
