I was a patient at Dental Associates prior to this incident around 2016. I had an implant that was supposed to end up with a crown. I had my alotted insurance amount used for the year. Within a couple months I ended up with a cracked tooth and a filling fell out. Since this would be strictly out of pocket when i was making an appointment i asked how much it would cost. The receptionist talked to a dental assistant and came back with "around 200 to 250". So made the appointment. When i showed up I asked again and again the quote was the same. I then moved to getting xrays of the tooth where i asked again how much. The workers to me look like all information is available to them at their stations computers. So the xray tech looked at her computer and after a few minutes of looking she said it should be around 218.00 dollars. I was ok with that. I then got moved to another station where the assistant looked at the xray and started setting up the necessary equipment. I also asked again "so the total bill for me today is?" her response was "like" 205.00 dollars. I was now a little happier thinking it was a few dollars cheaper. So my dentist shows up inspects the xrays and then my mouth, explained what she was going to do and asked if i was ready..... AGAIN BECAUSE I HAD TO PAY CASH nothing left of my insurance allowance I asked my dentist "so what is my final bill going to be". She also looks over things at the computer, that is in the work area and can be viewed by the PATIENT in the chair.... and says "looks like around 218.00 dollars!! ok.. so i AGREED to the work. I was then led to the next station, THE BILLING STATION..... which was across the isle... like 15 feet. Then came the confusion, the anger and belittlement which was escalated due to the age difference between me and the billing staff personel.. I was informed that the TOTAL bill was close to 800.00 dollars!! Shaking my head in disbelief i started informing her of the prior personnel saying it was one forth of what I was at that time being told... The young girl said with a tone "your filling was 218. dollars. the exam xrays and other costs were not included in the price of 218.00.... Once again I started questioning how could that be if i was told when asked the total cost the responses i was getting(from the first phone call setting up the appointment to the dentist right before the procedure) was around 200.00 dollars and now the extra expense? I said if i would have known i would have went somewhere else. The billing worker didnt offer any apologies or any other explenations... She just kept repeating the inflated final bill. I asked to speak to someone in charge. That person was not there so i asked for her direct line which i did receive. i then said i would only pay 200.00 dollars the lowest quote of the day due to all the stress being forced upon me at that present time.
I cant remember the exact day I got ahold of the facility director for the Fond du lac branch. it was the next business day i think, but when we did talk she started with the only quote would have been just the filling and not the exam or xrays or anything else. we went back and forth about the bill during which i said i would never return nor would any family member.. I said i would be getting the rest of my implant work at another dental group altogether. I also refused to pay the rest of the bill in question. She insisted that i got a quote and because of this the final bill could be whatever was deemed necessary by them. i said i would contact the BBB and whatever news station would listen to me to how they conducted their business. She did however at that time in that conversation say she would reduce my bill to which i said it didnt matter because i was only paying the 200.00. That was the end of our conversation and correspondence from them until this last week.
I now received a bill for around 500.00 dollars. Again the stress anger and resentment is overcoming my demeanour. i skimmed over the bill and it now looks like some of the expense has been moved into work that was on my implant that was paid up to the stopping point of insurance coverage. I was to wait for the next date that my insurance renewed for the calander year! So in my eyes they are now blatantly changing their "work estimates". I do believe i am in the right especially since I had no correspondance from them in 2 years..
