I got a new water heater from Home Depot and had it installed through Home Depot on 2/5/16, I assume that the water heater was installed by Delta Mechanical, had no problems on that end.
Shortly after, Delta Mechanical's Heating and Air Conditioning people start hounding me to offer me a free A/C Service maintenance. The first time they called it went to voicemail, I got the message but I did not return the call. The second time they called, I was on the other line and told them that I would have to call them back, the lady got kinda rude and told me that it will only take a moment to set this up. I told her, regardless, I am on the other line and will need to call you back.
So you can imagine my complete shock and surprise when the next day I have a man from Delta Mechanical show up to my door to do the maintenance service on the my A/C. I was speechless for a moment and finally told him I did not schedule any maintenance and that the communication I had with his company was that I would have to call them back. He apologized and left. I finally called Home Depot's Delta Mechanical, intending to complain about being harassed for their free service. The person who answered apologized for the misunderstanding and jumped right into wanting to schedule, so I finally did.
You see I had just had a whole system audit done on my house by Alternative Energy Solutions, great company by the way, they had just resealed all my vents, checked every part of my house and I was good to go. They did an awesome job and among their suggestions were that I have the drip pan from the A/C handler, the one in the attic cleaned out. Delta Mechanical offered that, as part of their free service, plus was supposed to have a 90 day guarantee. So when they finally came out the guy cleaned the coils of the unit, emptied whatever it was in the attic that needed to be done and told me that he didn't even need to top off my refrigerant because it was already full. He mentioned that my air handler and Trane A/C unit were mismatched in years (one being a 2006, the other being a 2015) I already knew this, even the people who had done the audit noted it, they said that they are generally replaced together, but that it shouldn't cause a problem.
So when April rolls around and my A/C is not cooling like it should be, or like it always had. I call Home Depot's Delta Mechanical, it hadn't been 90 days yet, they did return the call but then the weather cooled. So when I called them again today, still not 90 days, and told them of the same problem that I noted on April 17th, the lady says that she will speak with her supervisor and call me back.
Just got off the phone with her (Amanda), she told me that they could send the same guy out but that it was going to cost them me a $89 service charge. I told her that my A/C worked perfectly before, she said that regardless last time they were out the guy had made suggestions that I did not take, and so there would be a $89 charge to come back.
This is exactly why I was leery about accepting their free service to begin with, they pretty much harass me to accept the free service, when its finally accepted, they come out and all of a sudden it doesn't work right, and what about their 90 day guarantee? Non-existent. She asked afterwards, if I still want to schedule the appointment and I told her, "you know what, forget it I'll call the other company". I will also be calling Home Depot to let them know that because of their agreement with Delta Mechanical, I will not be using Home Depot ever again.
This company is a Rip-off Artist and just as bad as a Scam Artist.
I went to Home Depot to get a new water heater which cost $430.00. The instructions for installation were posted in the aisle to call an 800 number. I called the number and Florida Delta Mechanical answered the phone. I requested to schedule the installation of the Water Heater. At the end of the phone conversation I asked what the final price was going to be to which I was shocked to be told $1100.00!
I asked why the price was so high. The person on the phone said parts, labor, installation, permits and hauling away the old tank. The sign in Home Depot said free delivery and pick-up of the old heater. So, anyway before the installation took place which was a week later, I asked for an itemized invoice of the installation 6 times which went ignored. I wanted to see what I was paying for which the company refused to provide until AFTER they received payment.
After my credit card cleared the payment they were more than happy to provide an itemized invoice. Once I got the invoice and saw what they charged me I turned red with anger.
They made up charges and inflated charges to maximize their profit and RIP ME OFF. I went to Home Depot after the installation and checked the prices for the parts they used and I found a HUGE markup in price.
This is the invoice breakdown
Permit $130 > True Price $79
Permit Process $70 > Made Up Charge
Confined Space Charge $60 > Made Up Charge
Pick Up Old Heater $36 > FREE per Home Depot
Install Kit $230 > True Price $35
Labor / Install $150 > It only took 30 minutes
The bottom line is that Florida Delta Mechanical ripped me off by making up fake charges and drastically inflating the price of parts obtained from Home Depot. Then they refused to give me an itemized invoice until after my payment cleared.
