My husband and I took our oriental rug to Deep Eddy Rug & Carpet Cleaners. After they inspected the rug, they said that they could clean it, and gave us a written and itemized bill for $464.54.
After the two week period they said it would take to clean the rug, my husband called to inquire about the rug, and was told it was ready. They asked if we wanted the fringe area repaired for an additional several hundred dollars, which we declined.
I went to pick up the rug. As soon as I entered the building one of the employees picked up the rug and slung it over his shoulder. He obviously did not want to unroll the rug and show it to me. He wanted to put it in my car immediately but realizing I hadnt paid for it yet showed me to the office.
In the office I gave my name to the guy at the desk. He said yes that he knew the rug, then looked me in the eye and said, that he had "worked on that rug for days". I paid the $502.86 with my husbands card he gave me for the bill.
We then walked back into the work area where the employee still stood there with the rug slung over his shoulder and now in quite a rush to get the rug into my car. Neither of them gave me any opportunity to look at the job they had supposedly done.
Driving home I started coughing and noticed there were dog hairs I could see just looking over my shoulder into the back seat. When I got home my husband rolled out the rug in the driveway. To our dismay there were clumps of dog hair and pieces of dried blades of grass here and there. My husband lifted one corner of the rug and gave it a shake. Clouds of dust billowed into the air. He continued to shake while I recorded a video with his cell phone. They dusk continued to fill the air for as long as he shook the rug. It was filthy. Even a simple vacuum cleaner would have at least removed the pet hair. Obviouly the rug had not been cleaned.
We complained. We took the rug to the Manager of Deep Eddie. We hoped he would admit to a mistake. But, again it became clear that there was no mistake. He denied to our faces that the rug had not been cleaned, even though my husband shook the rug right there and dust filled the air. The manager told him to stop shaking the rug and told us to leave, and that he would not give back our money.
During the exchange with the manager, he said that he could not put the rug in the Dusting Machine because of the worn fringe area. But, wait a minute...they clearly knew about the fringe area when they gave us the estimate and told us that they could clean the rug. So they did nothing but rip us off for $502.86.
