I was a first time patient at DeBary Dentistry in DeBary, Florida, after I arrived for my appointment Dr. Drew and the staff were celebrating and giving a personalized blanket to the Dr. as a gift. I waited patiently while they celebrated and took pictures. After that the Dr. called me up and greeted me and appologized for the wait and told me there would be no charge for my visit, he told me twice there would be no charge in front of several people.
After the visit, which consisted of no treatment, only exam and digital X-rays, and recommendations for treatment, I was handed a detailed list of prices for work that the Dentist recommended and I then went out to the waiting room where my 79 year old father was waiting for me. I sat down to talk to him before we left to go home. Suddenly Dr. Drew came out from the back and started to talk about the details of my exam in front of everyone in the waiting room, including my Dad, even though he had already discussed treatment with me in the exam room. This was shocking and embarassing to me.
The Dentist then began to pitch a discount for the next visit he was expecting me to have that included a $99 payment upfront. I didn't agree to pay him anything, I just wanted to get out of there. My Dad, not knowing that I was told that day's visit would be free and thinking the Dentist was asking for payment for that day's visit thought he would do me the favor of paying for my visit and stood up and went up to the desk while I talked to Dr. Drew and one of his staff members. My Dad didn't tell me what he was doing, or rather, what he thought he was doing. My Dad paid them $99 from his debit card that I had not authorized and didn't agree to. I had already decided to leave that place and never come back.
Later, when I realized that my Dad had paid them money for a visit that should have been free, I sent DeBary Dentistry two emails and also an instant Message on thier facebook page saying that I was never coming back to them. and that I did not authorize them to charge my Dad any money, and I wanted them to refund his money. They never responded to me; instead they called my Dad and talked him again about my treatment and refused to refund him his money. My Dad asked me to bring him down to their office where he again demanded a refund and they still refused.
I feel like they tricked my Dad and ripped him off and humilated me. This whole experience has been a nightmare for me, and I am never going back there again.
