As many of you know, I’m very passionate about delivering quality real estate services to people in and around Chicago, and I’m also always quick to praise anyone else who’s also doing an exemplary job in the real estate field. By the same token, I feel it’s my responsibility to share with you a very negative and unsettling experience I recently had with a real estate agent based in Hinsdale.
It all started when I began working with Dawn McKenna at Coldwell Banker Hinsdale. I reached out to her regarding one of her listings, a multi-million dollar property in Hinsdale. Dawn was to act as both the listing agent and my agent. Unfortunately, my experience isn’t one I’d want anyone else to have to endure.
In fact, over the course of the deal, she violated my privacy and even disclosed some of my personal information to the seller. I found that Dawn also used high pressure sales tactics, such as pushing for a quick closing. My inspector needed more time, so Dawn provided one - and her inspector LIED about the true condition of the home.
Keep in mind, this is a multi-million dollar property we’re talking about here.
After her inspector’s report, I hired mine to come in for a second opinion. To my surprise, he discovered major issues with the property. Ultimately, I walked away from the deal entirely.
To say I felt completely and utterly deceived doesn’t begin to describe my feelings. I could have been victim to Dawn’s predatory tactics, but thankfully, I know the market pretty well.
I’m sharing this with you because you need to know this information. Never let an agent push you, rush you, or tell you which inspectors you need to use. You get to decide on inspectors - not the agent! You’ll ultimately have to choose, just like I did, whether to go through with a purchase or to walk away. If you feel you’re working with a predatory real estate agent, then my best advice is to walk away, and don’t come back until you’ve got a better agent on your side.
