I contacted Ms. Escobar about a Pug puppy...she told me she had one female left....we made arrangements for me to travel from the Eastern Shore of Va. to Tennessee to pick up the puppy, which looked fine in the photos...she asked that I meet her in a parking lot "to save you some travel time".
We did...the puppy's eyes looked a little funny but she said that the sun had irritated them and she had put visine into the eyes...we accepted that and took the puppy after giving her $800.00 cash...she failed to give me the paperwork or a receipt for my payment...but I had the puppy and didn't really care about papers.
..upon driving home to Va. the next day, the puppy's eyes were getting very inflamed and nasty looking....I took her in to my Vet, Dr. Russel Bailey, Parksley, Va...next day...he said her eye was in immediate danger of rupturing..he did emergency surgery on both eyes.
Left eye was much worse than the Right eye but the Right eye was also ulcerated and infected. Both eyes had surgery and are still sealed shut...the surgery cost me nearly $800.00...when I called her about the papers and the receipt, she said she didn't have them that I had them...I think she didn't want me to have a receipt so I couldn't take the dog back for a refund.. The dog was also so infested with tape worm that they were actually dropping onto me on the way home from Tn. My Vet said she also has a Coccidia infestation.. That has been taken care of as well.
When I explained all this to Ms. Escobar, she said "would $200 help you out?" I said anything would help toward the bill...I do not expect to ever hear from this woman again...
I am not looking for any money back on this transaction...I fell for an obvious scam artist..she got top dollar for a puppy that was nearly blind at 8 weeks of age. Hopefully the puppy will be able to see after the eyes are opened which will be in another 2 weeks or so.
My concerns are for any other puppies this woman may be "breeding"...to have let the eyes get to that point of injury is abuse....and to have that large amount of worms as well as Coccidia infestation....well it doesn't say much for the breeding habits of this woman..I just don't want her to be raising animals in an environment that would allow those kinds of injuries and then to not see a veterinarian is unconscionable...she told me she did her own shots and worming...not such a good job.
This woman claimed in an email to me that she was shocked and had no idea the puppy's eyes were so bad...or that the worms were eating her alive. She said she never saw anything wrong with the eyes...if you saw these eyes, you'd know she is lying..
