Where do I start? We found Dakota Water at a home expo show in our local town. We specifically came to the expo looking for a water softening business. We met Bruce (his business partner) and he gave us this great story about how great their system is and how much it would help us to be more healthy and to help save our appliances. So we set up a time for Wesley Halling, owner of Dakota Water to come out and test our water.
Setting up the time for Wesley to come out was quick. Once he was at our house to test the water which took him nearly 2 hours, he over exaggerated the numbers (gave us false testing results) and pressured us to not only add extras on ($$$) but pressured us into giving him $1,000 that very minute to "order" supplies needed to get the job done. We couldn't even think it over and get back to him without him pressuring us. Wesley also falsified and misrepresented the equipment he was selling. He claims the equipment he is selling - HydroTech has 6 medias in it and comes with a 25 year warranty and according to Wesley, the equipment just happens to malfunction at the 7 year mark and has no idea why. The 6 media and 25 year warranty is completely false.
Once he cashed our check, he set up a time to get the installation step started. He was to install the HydroTech tanks, reverse osmosis machine and run a water line from the reverse osmosis machine to our upstairs kitchen refrigerator. Installation day comes and it's not Wesley, it's someone who he contracts out and drives a very beat down, shady van. The equipment was on its side (which I has been informed ruins the valves which is not replaceable). The installer was an older man, constantly coughing and hacking the entire time. He went to install our reverse osmosis machine and about drilling into the wrong pipe of our house! Where he was going to drill, we would have had sewer getting into our drinking/bathing/washing water! We also tried contacting his business partner Bruce, with zero response. Are you kidding me?!
Once the installation of the HydroTech tanks was done (he only hung up the reverse osmosis machine, was not in working order that day). Wesley stated he wanted to come out himself and hook up the reverse osmosis and inspect what his installer had done. We gave Wesley the remaining balance. Once he received that remaining balance he came up with so many excuses as to why he could not come and finish the installation. He was in a water skiing accident, he has to go to the chiropractor because his back was out, his mother had a heart attack, excuse after excuse, which we had confirmed are all a lie.
We were left with undrinkable water (we only had salt water available) and no working osmosis machine. We ended up having to shut the system down completely and go back to the water we had before the water softener. We mailed a certified letter to Wesley which stated we want a full refund and for him to get his equipment out of our house. All of which he agreed to! He personally told us he would refund us our money and uninstall what was installed. After rounds and rounds with him we finally tell him if he doesn't refund us our money we will be taking this to court. His response? "That's fine, this is happened before, I have been sued before, I will just tell the court I don't have the money to pay".
Timeline: Met Dakota Water at our home expo show (which they just delete your concerned comments so no one can be forewarned) on June 27, 2021. Wesley came to our house to test our water July 2nd. The following week our equipment was partially installed. From then on out we only got excuses from Wesley as to why he can't finish the installation. Certified letter mailed and picked up by Wesley on 7/14/21. 2nd certified letter mailed mid August, never picked up. Have not heard from Wesley since mid July and now its early September. We even contacted the rep that he gets his system from and he was very rude, did not listen to us, basically barked at us on the phone.
Upon research we have found that Wesley and Dakota Water have conned numerous people out of thousands of dollars. Same story from each and everyone of them, once he receives your money, his disappears. He is known in changing his business' name to keep conning people. He is still at this game. Just this weekend (9/4-9/5) 5 more people have spoken up and said he has done the same thing to them! At least one other person other than us are taking him to court.
So we paid over $8,000 for a HydroTech system that does about 5% of what we were told (only has 2 medias, not 6!), and only a 7 year warranty (not 25 like Wesley was trying to claim). From what I hear, he does not have a set price, he charges what ever he thinks he can get away with. Most recently heard he charged a couple over $12,000 for the exact same system we got.
Beware of Wesley and Dakota Water. He is a fraud. He is a con-artist. Do yourself a favor and do not even allow Wesley or Dakota Water in your home.
