With CrowdSurf, you do transcription of audio and video files at various levels. Beginners do simple transcription, for example but as you move up levels you may edit, review and correct the transcriptions of others. Frequently what Crowdsurf does is you will accept a file to work, and it will be say, 8 minutes of data and you're going to review it and correct it. This might take 15 minutes.
You submit your work, but CrowdSurf says, "Save failed. Contact support". And you literally cannot submit the work you did. Nor will you get paid for it. Their system simply tells you that the save failed and you therefore can't be paid, you supposedly return your work to the pool for someone else to work. But you've already worked it and completed it, only CrowdSurf tells you that the save failed. Even though they COULD have a copy of your work that you did and this could be simply a way for them to fail to pay you.
It happens in other ways, too. Sometimes you'll be typing work, some transcription and their system is so broken that it will interrupt you every 5-6 jobs (each job is 5-15 cents), take away the work that you're in the middle of and tell you that the job is no longer available. Even though you were in the middle of working it. When this happens for every few jobs, over the course of an hour you're not getting paid for every 5 or so jobs you do.
I have emailed CrowdSurf multiple times about these problems and never once have they taken any action to correct either of these, which have gotten worse in 2018 to the point that the system is so glitchy they can't get enough people to the work. 20,000+ jobs in the cue is not unheard of, and they offer various supposed bonuses as incentive but when they keep yanking the work away there's really no incentive and most of us don't expect to be paid the bonuses anyway, the rules of which may change daily.
I'm part of a group of people who work for Crowdsurf and are sharing information about it on a private forum. So I know that the problems and issues I'm having are universal, for this company. I've worked for them over a year and last fall of 2017 is when they started having consistent problems but even then that might be one day a week or month. Now, in 2018, it is every day and it seems that their systems are increasingly glitchy and broken.
Crowdsurf has the nerve to tell us to note down all this data about each problem and report back to them but there is no data because the job has already disappeared, and we're not being paid to debug software for them, not paid to write them letters begging them to fix their servers, not paid to test beta software. The only reason I stay with Crowdsurf is because I'm destitute and they pay daily. That's it.
I signed up with CrowdSurf Transcription Services, at the suggestion of a respected Blogger. They seemed reputable, you had to take a test before they gave you work, and it all seemed legit.
However, I started working for them this past week, transcribing what they call HITs. You are paid pennies for hits, usually lasting a maximum of 24 seconds, but they promise bonuses for "challenging" jobs and quantity of work.
I keep track of my time and HITs worked on, and so far, they confirm and "pay" in an unfathomable way! After many hours of work, totalling well over 30, with over 150 HITs, they have so far confirmed less than 70 HITs, and "paid" $29! I say "paid" because the Work Market they sent me as my payment card, and where they showed payments on my site, just confirmed that there was 0 put on the card! And now, my online banking account is compromised!
I don't know if CrowdSurf is an actual sham, as there are not a lot of complaints on your site, but they need looking into! Their contact phone number, email address and web address are all not working!
I am very mad, and want the money I'm owed from CrowdSurf!
I did some transcription work for Crowdsurf three weeks ago (quite a substantial amount) and they still haven't paid. I've attempted to contact them through all means (phone, help tickets, and social media) and they haven't responded. Their phone number is also no longer active.
