Country Auto & Marine Repair Reviews

  • Jul 10, 2017

March 2016 I began servicing my boat at Country Auto Marine. I had a stereo installed and asked my boat be looked over thoroughly to ensure it was operable. Tom Perkins charged me a couple thousand dollars to do this work. When I got boat back a couple months had passed. He claimed he was backed up so I was patient. When I took the boat in the water it smoked and backfired almost causing an accident. I returned boat to his shop where he then explained I needed new engines.

After anpther 6-8 weeks of waiting patiently he claims the boat is fixed and I was billed around 8,000 dollars. I took the boat out for a couple hours and it acted fine until I shut it down in the lake and anchored. When I started the boat again, it began smoking and shutting down on me. I let it cool down and managed to get it back to my docking spot when I then hit a small sand dune that bent up the props. Tom was notified and my boat sat at his shop until June if this year.

I paid storage fee and he was suppose to fix the boat engine and replace props. I was billed another 1900 dollars on 6/23/2017 for a bill that only subtotaled at around 1765 dollars. He claimes he rounded the number off? What business does this? Of course, he then tells me the boat was water ready and all good to go. When I pulled boat out there was no gasoline in it. I do know that I filled the tank prior to bringing it in. I gassed up boat and took it out onto lake erie..within five minutes the boat engines smoked, kicked, misfired and shut down throwing me and 6 other people into the rocks and into a tree. I waited for three hours and the Coast Guard. Reports were filed and BBB was contacted.

I tried negotiating a refund with Perkins and he basically laughed at me telling me to take him to court. I am sure he did not do the work and in fact, he has mechanics work with him who are not certifed and should not be working on this vessel. He lied and claimed he did all the work, however, he admitted to me and my friend prior to this that the young men working for him had done the work and he wasnt happy.

I am currently taking him to court and seeking a refund on his services. He is rude, lies, and smells of alcohol at times when we speak. I refuse to allow him to touch my boat again. He also admitted to overcharging me and laughed that off as well.
