IF YOU WANT TO RUIN YOUR VACATION TO SAN DIEGO, YOU SHOULD STAY AT THE CONSULATE HOTEL. The management group doesn't feel compelled to fix the persistent, disgusting problems that so many other travelers have complained about on hotels.com and tripadvisor.com. I just want to warn people to not make the same mistake we did. My biggest fear is that we are taking bed bugs or roaches that got in our clothes or travel bags back to our friends house or even to our home in San Jose.
We drove in. Had we actually read the many terrible reviews on line, we would not have ended up at the Consulate Hotel at all. It was a sort of a last minute decision to stay overnight rather than head back to stay with friends -- a bad decision! From the outside, we knew it was an older hotel and the inside lobby was dated, but the price was good and the staff were friendly and helpful.
The price is the bait. This is how they get you to the hotel.
Truthfully, I think this place should be closed down until someone from the City or State makes this Hotel clean up their act. There were bugs everywhere in the bathroom, on the floor and in the bed. I was in shock. Listen, there are plenty of other discount good hotels to choose from just a stone’s throw away from this dump, maybe they cost $5 or 8 dollars higher a night. Take it from us; it’s worth every penny to go elsewhere.
With so many really bad reviews, it’s clear that the Consulate Hostel just does not care!! They make a quick buck from people like us who drive passed, see their sign with discount pricing and who don't know what heck they are walking into. You are getting free bed bugs and roaches as your San Diego souvenir. For sure, I am going to report them to the health department or local code enforcement, some body needs to know how these people operate and do something.
