This league is not good! I have read the reviews on here approved and non-approved and ironically enough the non-approved ones seem to be more accurate. My son was hurt in every game from the rough play, the bad field conditions or just the lack of safety awareness from the coach and administration. Allowing my 70 pound 9 year old to have to block against kids easily twice his size with no pads on caused in 1 game to get a concussion. When approaching Mark Chin about the concern he simply shrugged his shoulders and said " That's football if you don't like it don't have him play" great reply from the Vice President of this prestigious board of directors. What a joke!
This Fall 2016 season, the vice president Mark Chin dismissed a coach, who happened to be a parent of two of the kids that played in this league. Mark Chin had his reasons, while totally uncalled for, to dismiss a coach, FINE. However, to also forbid a parent from spectating his own children playing football is not only unreasonable-but only hurts the KIDS. The Cyffa website states that these games are for the kids-slogans that Mark Chin doesnt truly believe in.
If it WERE for the KIDS, he would not be penalizing the kids by not allowing their father to watch them. Egotistical Mark Chin and his group of boys, not men, that he has running this league can do this to you AT ANY TIME they want to. Then he'll hide behind something called a Competition Committee because he is not man enough to talk to you face to face or even email to email. Its as if he is not comfortable having his name attached to anything where people could disagree with him personally. What vice president does that?
He should be ashamed at the unethical way he handles things. Let this letter serve as a warning to you that if you do not KISS HIS BUTT, you could be next. You are strongly encouraged to try out another league, where it truly is about the KIDS. Be part of something BIG by leaving Cyffa and going elsewhere. Not to mention this league plays on grass with potholes and the fields are torn up with gopher holes and injuries run rampant.
CYFFA is fake! They scammed unharmed organizations to make it look like they have a league to get money from sponsors that the teams never see... They get paid from organizations to provide games they couldn't because they don't have legit teams. Be careful DO NOT put your youth program in their hands !
CYFFA Football League is a youth sports program in Thousand Oaks, California that is owned by an individual. The registration fee is $195.00 and if you want your child to have a trophy for it- that's another $10.00. If you want to keep your child's jersey that's even more money. But aside from the cost for everything- CYFFA is extremely unprofessional. Very little information was given to parents, such as correct practice times or when the practices/games were scheduled.
If practice was cancelled, such as on rainy days or heaven forbid it's to hot in Thousand Oaks at 5PM, we wouldn't get a phone call about it until 10 minutes before it was scheduled to begin. What's more, there were certain times my child's team was scheduled to play games on Saturdays, and nearly every game day when we arrived the other teams were "behind schedule", and we would have to wait an hour or 2 before our game would begin.
On the final game day for their "Superbowl" they were 2 hours behind schedule. Then when the previous team played, the coaches sat around chatting for 30 minutes before beginning the final game. It was only when parents in the stands began yelling to start the game did they saunter over and start the coin toss. But the worst thing I saw by far was the bias of the head coach/Vice President Mark Chin. There were several teams in the league, and he actually hand picked the best players for a particular team, then proceeded to coach that team himself. Naturally this is the team that won the Superbowl. I found that very unprofessional.
CYFFA allowed Mark Chin to become not only the Vice President, but also a coach to 2 teams in which he stacked both rosters and played "Daddy Ball" for 2 of his 4 sons that play in the league.
CYFFA used to be a good starting place for kids to learn football, but has gone down hill since Mark Chin's arrival 2 years ago. The referees are untrained and lack any experience. They are kids between the ages of 13-17. Looks like it was a way to cut costs by CYFFA and hire cheap labor.
The game play is very rough on the kids and I sometimes feel like tackle football would be a much safer way to go. CYFFA and Mark Chin only care about their own agenda. Making decisions based on making more money for themselves and jeopardizing our children and their health in the meant time.
Conejo Youth Flag Football Association DO NOT let your kids play in this league. They have equipment that does not meet the sports standards for testing of equipment. CYFFA does not clean the equipment at the end or beginning of each season. This is supposed to be a NON PROFIT ORGANIZATION. But if you look under any list on non profits in California CYFFA is not listed nor is anything in CYFFA's name or Conejo Youth Flag Football Association.
This is a scam they bring in teams and make up the rules as they go. If they think your team is good and may beat their team they will find a way to remove you from the league. They have fund raiser for "new equipment" and in all reality it goes towards their trip to something else. Then they had some POS trailer given to them and they had it brought in and put on county property and said that they owned those fields. Well they don't own anything.
These people are good for nothing and have only their best interest at hand here. They use this league to supplement their income. Also the concession stand that they have is not legal, nobody has a food handlers permit and it is food and stuff stored at their personal residence over time. Mark Chin will lead you to believe he has all this power and makes one ask why would he want to be Vice President of CYFFA for free? www.cyffa.com
Take a good look at the helmet your kid is wearing and check for the stickers that say they have been tested and passed by the CYFFA. All helmets should be tested/reconditioned at least every 3 years. Parents if you care for your kids do not let them play in this league. I will be posting this in all the local papers that have teams in this league to make them aware of the safety issues at hand. www.cyffa.com
You have other choices for your kids that have new and updated equipment along with insurance. CYFFA does not even have the proper insurance coverage for the kids. And in reading the reviews on this YELP page I know for a fact 7 of the 9 REVIEWS come from current or former "board members" of CYFFA. How is that not a conflict of interest and a scam? These kids get hurt more playing in CYFFA then they would in regular tackle football. Expect bloody noses, broken bones and serious injuries. www.cyffa.com
