Collections Etc. Reviews
I have been a customer of Collections Etc since they started selling through their magazine in 1997. In December 2020 I ordered and received from Collections Etc. an item that was not as described on their website. I requested a return label and kept calling for 6 times and every time they said that the label was on the way. I asked the lady the last time I called what did she mean by on the way. She said it was sent by mail. I asked her why did they send that by mail when it can be emailed and receive the same day. She did not answer and said it was mailed. That was a flat lie, I received the label on January 15, 2021.
At that time the item was already donated because I was not going to aggravate myself dealing with something like that. Then this January 2021, I placed an order and Collection Etc. total final purchase showed the tax as it is customary when placing orders, however, now they said that the tax amount included was an estimate because they charge the tax at time of shipping, even though the order shows as final, but they never inform me about it. They charged my credit card without my knowledge and/or authorization the amount of $11.04. When I sent an email requesting the refund this is the answer they gave me and I quote, "We apologize for the confusion, the tax quote given at the time of purchase is estimated.
Final sales tax is calculated upon the shipment of your merchandise". This is the first time I have ever heard and/or seen something like this, and I buy everything online. I understand this is not legal because when the vendor totals a sale that is the final total and not to be adjusted by the vendor without even notifying the customer, and without the authorization of the customer. When this order was received the items ordered were items that were previously returned by other customers, repack and resold. They were repacked so badly that the items did not fit in the box they used to put the items back. I sent an email informing them about this issue, and now they are requesting from me to use the label they are sending for the return. They never explained that those were returned items being resold, and they have the audacity to request from me that if I use the label sent by them a $7.99 fee will be deducted from the total paid.
This order total $239.85 less $66.38 promotion codes for a total of $173.47 plus tax and processing. I am not returning the items I rather donate them than paying for a return label. This company is greedy, not reliable and overcharge the customer without their authorization. They have proven that they are not a reliable company, and they are overcharging the customer without previous notice and/or authorization.
I really wish I had looked into this company before buying from them. After getting scammed I found that they scam everyone! I ordered 2 lighthouse lamps and a set of lighthouse sheets from them. Then I went to another company and got all of this expensive lighthouse bedding to go with it. I looked in my email to see when the item would be shipped, as all of the other companies I ordered from the same day, sent me shipping confirmations with estimated arrival dates that same day, immedietely in fact.
All I could find from Collections etc. was an email saying that there were items still sitting in my cart and the order didn't go through. It said you better hurry and complete this order because these items are popular. So I freeked out and went to their website. There was nothing in the shopping cart. But there was also no sign of any history of orders. So I thought, great, I have to do my order all over again. But the lighthouse lamps were out of stock. Great! Now I had all this matching bedding coming and no lamps. So I reordered the sheets, because at least those were still in stock.
Then I got the same confirmation "Thank you for your order. Ok. Good. Now I just have to go get the lamps elsewhere. So I ordered much more expensive lighthouse lamps elsewhere, since that was all I could find. Then I thought, I better go look to see when this will be shipped and make sure the order is showing this time. Low and behold BOTH orders are now showing up in there. Great. Now I have paid double for everything. I don't need 2 of everything. Surely, if I just email them they will cancel the order. Nope.
They just ignored several emails. So I called them and got the rudest Indian woman I have ever spoken to. She could give a flying crap about my situation, even though I had the emails to prove everything I was saying. She just said too bad it's already in the warehouse. Big flipping deal. Has it been shipped yet? No. Then when will it be shipped. I have no idea. Then cancel it. NO! What is wrong with you people???? Silence.......Hello? Silence.....Hello? ...Yes? Are you going to help me with this or not? NO. Then I go to BBB to file a complaint and see a MILLION complaints of corrupt practices by these freeking people.
They send smashed stuff and don't replace it. They don't even use any protective packaging. Great. I ordered lamps! They charge people for shipping when it was free shipping. They charge people for some kind of weird monthly membership they never ordered. They are rude on the phone and ignore emails. Sounds familiar. Never again. Be warned. These people may be able to screw over the elderly in this life but they will pay for it in the next life. These things WILL catch up with you crooks and punishment will be eternal! Have a nice day.
